Dylan Larkin’s Preferred Destination in Central… But Not Minnesota

When 29-year-old center Dylan Larkin, who turns 30 y/o on July 30, first submitted his list of preferred trade destinations to the Detroit Red Wings a few months ago, it included just three teams — the Minnesota Wild, Vegas Golden Knights and Florida Panthers.

Even before his original trade list was revealed, the Wild have been considered as the team Lark would probably prefer to play for most. After all, he is best pals with Quinn Hughes, Matt Boldy and Brock Faber and played for Wild GM Bill Guerin during the 2026 Olympics.

Unfortunately, Wings GM Steve Yzerman didn’t like the offers he received from the Wild, Knights or Panthers, and still doesn’t. So he’s been trying to get Larkin and his agent to continue expanding his list while Guerin and other interested GMs continue to wait.

Dylan Larkin prefers MN Wild rival… Dallas Stars?

One of the teams added since the original list was submitted, is the Dallas Stars. And now, not only are the Stars included among Larkin’s preferred destinations, but according to Nick Kypreos (Sportsnet), Dallas is where Dylan Larkin wants to play most.

Kypreos also hints strongly at the Anaheim Ducks (and GM Pat Verbeek) soon getting involved, as well.

While Larkin will have some control over his next destination because of that clause, GM Steve Yzerman also has control on if Larkin gets traded at all. There is a strong push for Larkin to expand his list of teams he’s willing to go to. Yzerman will not move him if he feels he’s getting squeezed. Look for Yzerman’s former assistant GM, Pat Verbeek, to try and get in on this. However, it appears Larkin’s destination of choice is Dallas.

Obviously, the Wild’s No. 1 trade target landing in Dallas would be really bad news. Not only would they miss out on Larkin, but he’d land with one of their most talented Central Division rivals.

Wild offer on Larkin not “huge” enough…

When responding to a question on X over why Minnesota hasn’t made a “huge offer” for Larkin like they did Tkachuk, Michael Russo (The Athletic) made it very clear that the offer on the table for Larkin is considered “huge”… just not large enough to get Yzerman’s attention.

I have a conspiracy theory on this new obsession Dylan Larkin apparently has with the Stars. Is he really all of a sudden that motivated to go south, when Dallas wasn’t even on his radar a month ago?

Or… is it possible his camp is trying to stir Guerin into action by floating to media that he’d prefer to and with (arguably) Minnesota’s most hated rival? I guess, until he actually moves, that’s what I might go with.
