Kickers have been a sore spot for the Minnesota Vikings over the course of the franchise’s storied history. Wide-right, wide-left, Gary Anderson; all trigger terms among this fanbase. Since as long as most of us can remember, placekickers have been the bane of the Vikings’ existence.

But then, in April, general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah drafted Alabama kicker Will Reichard with the 203rd overall pick. And so, far the results have been EXTREMELY promising.

Minnesota Vikings given a reprieve with Will Reichard

After the Minnesota Vikings had grabbed their quarterback of the future, and a handful of other selections, they turned their attention to special teams. How good has he been? The rookie right-footer is a perfect 14-for-14 through seven games. He’s the only kicker in the league who hasn’t missed an extra point or field goal.

The Vikings trust their 23-year-old kicker up to 68-yards, meaning he has plenty of BOOM to go with his pinpoint accuracy. Kevin O’Connell’s offense remains among the better units in the league. That should generate plenty of scoring chances for Reichard. If there’s one position the Minnesota Vikings could use some good fortune at, it’s kicker.

Minnesota Vikings fans may never breathe easy, when their kicker runs onto the field. But for sure, they’ll need to see Reichard come through in the clutch, before they consider the Vikings kicker demons exorcised. But let’s be real. Playing for Alabama means that Reichard has already been tested in a lot of big moments.

Hell, kicking for a Nick Saban team has to come with more pressure than most of us could imagine. The Vikings did get Reichard into a preseason game-winning spot, during the preseason. He, of course, drilled it.
