Kirk Cousins Posts Strategically Timed Workout Videos as NFL Arrives at Scouting Combine
Kirk Cousins knows exactly how important this week at the NFL Scouting Combine is to his future. Not what’s happening on the field or in interview rooms, where college prospects do drills and talk to teams as they try to land on a draft board somewhere.
Instead, he’ll leave those Indy talks up to his agent Mike McCartney (who we confirmed is still employed by Cousins). McCartney will work all week trying to find which teams are interested, how interested they are and how much said teams will be willing to pay a 35-year-old QB coming off a torn achilles, should he hit the open market.
So on Monday morning, as most of the league arrives in Indy, Kirk Cousins put out a very strategically timed workout video where he can be seen dropping back, throwing and pushing off on that right achilles tendon without any sort of brace (maybe some tape?) around it.

But first, Kirk needs to put Mike in the best negotiating position possible. The one question that needs answered before NFL teams will seriously consider signing Cousins is whether or not Kirk’s previously torn achilles tendon will be recovered and ready to take the field this summer.

For Kirk, the most important conversations at the combine will take place all over Indianapolis, from inside Lucas Oil Stadium to the bars, restaurants and hotel rooms that that surround it. And he won’t be a part of them.

Every franchise that is pondering an investment into Kirk Cousins, an investment that could be has high as $51 million per season, will want to make sure that his achilles is going to be a full-go by the time teams start to meet for organized team activities in a few months.

Now, this isn’t what I would consider a strenuous workout, but I’m not sure it had to be. What’s important is that NFL front offices understand Kirk’s achilles is on track to recover as expected. With OTA’s still a ways out, there’s no reason to think he won’t be ready by then.
From here, we will all wait for reports to trickle out from insiders stationed in Indianapolis this week. We expect the early ones to focus on what the Minnesota Vikings plan to do with Kirk Cousins, as he holds the key — not just for the Vikings spring plans, but for much of the league too.
