Kirk Cousins’ Achilles Recovery is Ahead of Schedule
The Minnesota Vikings are weighing their quarterback options for the 2024 season, and beyond, as are a few other QB hungry teams around the NFL whose seasons are already over.

For many of those squads, their quarterback questions probably start with Kirk and whether or not he signs another contract in Minnesota, prior to becoming a free agent on March 13. Teams like the Raiders, Patriots and Falcons, who feel like they’re a really good quarterback away from something special, will absolutely see Cousins as their top option, entering the offseason.
Kirk Cousins achilles recovery running ahead of schedule
So Friday, a lot of people will be paying attention to the news just dropped Friday afternoon by NFL Network’s (one of us) Tom Pelissero, who reported on his TV show, ‘The Insiders’, that Cousins achilles recovery is running ahead of schedule and that he plans to start throwing before the league convenes at the NFL Scouting Combine from March 29 – February 3.
Ignore the caption in the tweet below. Marc Ross’ breakdown of Kirk’s big payday was not a breakdown at all. I included the most pertinent part of his “breakdown” in the quote box below.
Kirk Cousins is ahead of schedule in his recovery from Achilles surgery and will be throwing in the next month or so.

What kind of payday could Cousins get when free agency kicks off in 44 days? @MarcRoss helped us break it down on The Insiders.

Ross: “Kirk has proven he can get the money, he has proven he can put up yards and be prolific in the league. Without a whole lot of teams with top-tier guys, Kirk, I think, is all set to cash in once again.”
Pelissero: “I am told [Cousins] is ahead of schedule, in his recovery from the achilles [injury]. He’s actually going to be throwing before the combine next month. So, everything tracking in a good direction for Kirk Cousins to be fully ready to roll for the Vikings, or whoever he might be with in 2024.”

What should Minnesota Vikings do with Cousins?
The battle wages on amongst Vikings fans over whether or not general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah should move on from the soon-to-be 36-year-old quarterback, given where the team is from a talent standpoint, beyond Cousins, and his ongoing injury recovery, among many other things.
But there’s no doubt, given how many teams across the league are eyeing up Kirko, that other organizations seem much less concerned with most of the things fans around here question. Most recently, NFL.com’s Nick Shook named Cousins as one of the free agent QBs this offseason that he would NOT let get away.
In 2023, the Vikings experienced the harsh reality of what a future life without Cousins might look like, cycling through three different backups and finding zero solid answers following Cousins’ season-ending Achilles injury. Add that lesson to the fact that Cousins’ performance was arguably the only good thing to come out of the Vikings’ first eight weeks of 2023, and it’s pretty easy to see how Minnesota should proceed. Re-sign Cousins to a one- or two-year deal, securing a passer who was enjoying one of his best seasons prior to his injury, and start seriously planning for a future without him, so you don’t get caught empty-handed again a year or two from now.
