Everson Griffen is Living in Twitter Regret and “Desperately Wants to Come Back to Vikings”
Twitter has become the best receipt-keeping library in the world. If you’re a person of interest who tweets something, it’s on the internet forever. Former Minnesota Vikings defensive end, Everson Griffen, is finding that out the hard way this offseason.
Not long ago, January 9 to be exact, Griffen tweeted about how terrible of a quarterback Kirk Cousins is. At the time, Griffen had just finished the 2021 season as a Detroit Lion and his last game, one week prior, was against the Vikings (Jan. 3). Ev had a non-descript 2 tackles (one was a TFL) in the matchup.
If you don’t remember exactly what was tweeted in that thread, let me refresh your memory. This wasn’t some subtweet that didn’t mention Cousins by name or that left anyone to wonder what or who he was talking about. Nah, Griffen went at Kirk HARD.

Backpedal
On KFAN this morning, Paul Allen dug the Everson Griffen conversation out of the ground during his 9 to Noon radio show and told a story of massive regret. According to PA, Everson expressed (in text messages to Allen) deep regret for his tweets about Kirk and that he desperately wants to come back to the Minnesota Vikings”.
We all know Griffen never wanted to leave Minnesota and that’s probably where his frustrating tweet storm sprouted from back in January. But, sometimes you have to lie in the bed you tweeted. We’ll see if Spielman, Zimmer and Kirk Cousins are in a forgiving mood this offseason.

Griffen texted Allen that he “bleeped up” with his tweets regarding Cousins and that it was wrong.
Allen also mentioned Griffen still has people in his corner with the team
Everson Griffen’s return could depend on what Rick Spielman wants to pair opposite of Danielle Hunter. The Vikings have money in the bank (about $13 million right now) but defensive end isn’t the only area of need.
Does Zimmer and Co think that Ev has one more productive year in his tank? He did collect six sacks in just 14 games last season, while bouncing between Dallas and Detroit. If they do believe Griffen has gas left in his tank, he could fill a major area of need at a cheap price.
If not, they’ll probably want to make a bigger investment at that position. No matter how Kirk Cousins feels about forgiveness.
