The Minnesota Timberwolves destroyed the Orlando Magic on Tuesday night. It was probably their best overall performance in weeks, which was good timing because they were able to rest starters for long stretches on the first night of back-to-back road games.

Unfortunately, the rest of the evening, after the Wolves walked out of Kia Center with a 113-92 victory, did not go according to plan. The 2nd leg of their back-to-back is in Boston on Wednesday night.

Playing at TD Garden is always a good time, so that’s not the problem. For the last 12 hours, however, much of the country has been dealing with snow and rainstorms that have been causing problems from coast to coast.

And the Timberwolves’ flight up the East coast from Orlando to Boston, which was scheduled for late Tuesday night, didn’t escape the storm’s carnage, either. Smartly, they didn’t try to, opting instead to make the trip on Wednesday morning.

Tonight’s game against the Celtics will tip-off at 6 pm CST so gameday routines are going to be thrown completely out of whack and many players will probably head straight to TD Garden, when they arrive in Boston.

No Excuses, Play Like a Champion

But there are no excuses in sports. The Celtics aren’t going to take it easy on them because they got into town late. This is a good test of Minnesota’s ability to push through unexpected circumstances that can easily be used as an excuse for playing poorly.

But in reality, they all slept in nice cushy beds last night and should have gotten plenty of shut-eye, before boarding a comfortable team-chartered flight on Wednesday morning. They did not have to switch time-zones and many of their best players rested for much of Tuesday’s game.

So, what kind of team do the Wolves want to be? They’ve sold themselves as a team that doesn’t need to rest its best players and one that won’t let obstacles like this stop them from winning. So tonight is a very good opportunity to prove it.
