On Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons, the Minnesota Vikings will play just their 2nd meaningful game, since 2018, without Kirk Cousins at quarterback and he will not be back under center for the rest of the 2023-24 season. What we don’t know yet, is whether or not Kirk has taken his last snap as Vikings QB.

Vikings want Kirk Cousins back.

But, we got some clarity on the situation, Saturday. According to Diana Russini (The Athletic), the Vikings want to bring Cousins back, this offseason. At least, that’s what her sources have been telling her over the last few months.

Though his future is unclear, conversations I’ve had with sources over the last few months suggest Minnesota will try to bring him back and that there are many in the building and locker room who want that.

Recently, there has been plenty of evidence that the Vikings and Cousins are interested in spending more time together, beyond this season. But Russini’s article today is the first report to indicate that the Vikings plan on negotiating with Kirk on a return.

Fluid situation

Obviously, things could change. For example, if Jaren Hall were to show signs on Sunday, in his first NFL start, that he might be a diamond QB that Kwesi and O’Connell pulled out of the rough, then that could have a huge affect on what the Vikings want to do with Kirk Cousins, in the offseason.

But for now, it appears the Minnesota Vikings will work to bring Kirk back.
