Weekly MN Sports Review with Toups (That Still Needs a Name; Ideas Welcome) – Vol. 1

If you’ve been following along here at Minnesota Sports Fan you have hopefully grown accustomed to seeing my thoughts put to paper. Sometimes though, a story may not allow for a breakdown in full depth, or may need to be revisited after the fact, etc…

Enter: “We Can’t Think of a Good Name Yet”

That’s right, Founder Eric and I cannot think of a name so feel free to help us out in the comment section at the end of this post or on Twitter/Facebook

In this yet-to-be-named weekly piece, I will take headlines throughout the week, that may have slipped through the cracks, or that have been updated with new information and crunch them up into digestible pieces for you to enjoy (hopefully). I will try to keep on task but as with most tangents (done naming idea we’ve had but are yet to make fit right) I tend to wander off course at times. Buckle up:

Let’s get this show on the road.

Cayleb Jones Arrested:

The Vikings announced Wednesday that wide receiver Cayleb Jones was arrested for alleged theft and domestic violence. Jones, who is the brother of Bills wide receiver Zay Jones (yeah that one) was hoping to crack the roster. But after this latest incident, and considering he was ALREADY FACING A 4 GAME SUSPENSION THIS SEASON, I would be shocked if Jones makes the team. This leaves a chance for the likes of Jake WienekeBrandon Zylstra and Chad Beebe to make the team as their final wide receiver. PUT MY MONEY ON ZYLSTRA!! (after it was announced that Beebe won’t play…)

Deng Adel Signed:

If you aren’t familiar with Deng Adel don’t worry; you aren’t alone. The Wolves signed Adel earlier this week to a two-way contract with a chance to fill one of the final vacant bench spots for the Wolves. Adel played with Louisville in college, and shot at least 34.6% from 3 his 3 years there. Considering the Wolves desperate need of “3 and D” wings heading into the offseason, Deng definitely fits the bill. Plus anyone who can slam like this can play on my favorite team:

Willians Astudillo is The Guy:

This is not a made up name. Astudillo spent most of the season at Triple-A Rochester, where he was putting together a truly absurd season with the Red Wings. Much like my high school baseball career (thankfully no link to my high school exploits exists) Astudillo is the true embodiment of “See ball, hit ball”. He won’t walk, but he won’t strike out and he may only see one or two pitches in the process. Can Astudillo be an impactful major league hitter? Who knows, but the fact that the Twins are letting him do his thing on the big league roster is fun as hell. Oh, and he can rake a little bit too. LONG LIVE WILLIANS ASTUDILLO!

Other things that caught my eye this week:

This would make sense as rosters get trimmed to 53 this weekend. And PA hit the nail on the head with an earlier prediction of the trade that ended up netting Brett Jones. My guess is there is something else in the works.

I don’t even know where to begin with this mess. The Vikings were interested in Mychal, brother of Vikings linebacker Eric Kendricks, earlier in the offseason but he ultimately chose to go to Cleveland (willingly…I know..). Hopefully Mychal didn’t get his hands on any of his brothers new extension money.

Last one:

COME ON!!! HOW DID WE ALLOW THIS TO HAPPEN? IF YOU ARE THE STARTING QUARTERBACK OF THE MINNESOTA VIKINGS (and making $28M/YR) YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO JUST DRIVE UP TO THE FRONT GATE AND RECEIVE ANY PARKING SPACE YOU WANT. IT’S THE GREAT MINNESOTA “GET TOGETHER”, NOT THE GREAT MINNESOTA “CAN’T FIND PARKING”. NOT WHEN YOUR NAME IS KIRK COUSINS.

I’m with Eric on this:

That’s all for today. Until next time (hopefully with a sweet name for this thing)!
