What unfolded was a tale of two halves that ultimately ended in a 126-123 defeat. Along the way, however, Anthony Edwards delivered a performance for the ages, pouring in a career-high 55 points.

It has been that kind of season for the Timberwolves’ superstar. Six years into his career, Edwards has taken the most significant leap forward yet. He is playing the best basketball of his life, and still, that wasn’t enough to earn him a starting spot in the All-Star Game.

Anthony Edwards Left Out For Minnesota Timberwolves

For years, the Western Conference has been the more difficult side of the NBA, a reality the Timberwolves see every time they look at the standings. Right now, the West also boasts significantly more star power, and that depth ultimately kept Anthony Edwards out of the starting lineup.

The manner in which it unfolded made the snub even more glaring. With fan voting accounting for 50% of the decision, it proved to be the deciding factor in favor of Victor Wembanyama. Edwards was voted a starter by both players and media, yet still missed out. Meanwhile, Wembanyama, who was voted a starter by media only, secured his place in the starting five.

Edwards has undeniably elevated his game this season. His 29.6 points per game are a career-high, and he is shooting the best percentages of his career from both the field (.504) and from three-point range (.418).

Now headed to his fourth consecutive All-Star Game, it’s disappointing that this one won’t come with a starting nod. Losing a tie breaker to Wembanyama because of fan voting takes some shine away form just how extraordinary Edwards has been.

Beyond the numbers, Edwards has also shouldered increased point guard responsibilities for a Minnesota Timberwolves team still searching for stability at that position. At the peak of his rising superstardom, this snub simply adds another chip to his shoulder.

NBA Insider Casts Doubt on MN Timberwolves https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-timberwolves/midseason-grade-lukewarm-assessment/ Mon, 19 Jan 2026 16:14:40 +0000 https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/?p=79575 At 27-16 at the midway point of the 2025-26 NBA season, the Minnesota Timberwolves find themselves as the current No. 4 seed in the West, and only 1.5 games away from falling into the play-in tournament.

Now coming off an emotional loss against the San Antonio Spurs Saturday night, Anthony Edwards and the Wolves will look to regroup Tuesday against the Utah Jazz.

Speaking of Ant, he put up a career-high 55 points in Minnesota’s loss vs Victor Wembanyama and the boys, over the weekend, following two games off with an infected toe.

ESPN lukewarm on Minnesota Timberwolves

But overall, this is a team that still rides a weekly rollercoaster, depending on how motivated they are for each game. And that isn’t their only issue.

ESPN NBA analyst Kevin Pelton is worried the MN Timberwolves may be in trouble of falling off a steep Western Conference cliff. On Monday, he gave the Wolves’ season a B-, using their point guard problems and poor BPI to prove his point.

A 51-win pace obscures concerns for the Timberwolves, who have played the second-easiest schedule thus far among West teams, according to BPI. Minnesota has also generally been healthy, with its preferred starters together for 31 of 43 games. That’s important because 2024 first-round picks Rob Dillingham and Terrence Shannon Jr. have been unable to fill the void left by Nickeil Alexander-Walker’s departure in free agency, with Bones Hyland emerging as Alexander-Walker’s primary replacement. Keep an eye on how injuries could expose the Timberwolves’ shaky depth.

ESPN

There’s no denying that the MN Timberwolves are a good basketball team. The problem is that good teams don’t win championships. To get over the hump, the Wolves must find consistency. Only then can they become a great team.

Tim Connelly has been looking for point guard help all season, and the right acquisition before the deadline could certainly help cure a lot of this. Head coach Chris Finch has been forced into using both Edwards and Donte DiVincenzo as miscast point guards, which factors into the lack of consistency.

Bones Hyland has been a nice addition, but he doesn’t possess the talent to produce in an NBA Championship-caliber capacity. Mike Conley is… well, old. Meanwhile, it’s difficult for Rob Dillingham and Terrence Shannon Jr. to develop without playing time.

Trade could turn Timberwolves tide

We are just over two weeks away from the NBA trade deadline. The Minnesota Timberwolves are facing a luxury tax bill north of $24 million as it stands currently. They also have the fifth-highest current tax payroll.

For Tim Connelly to pull something off, he’ll need to get creative regarding both the assets moving as well as the numbers. There’s no doubt he should have interest in trying to make something work though.

In each of the past two seasons, the Timberwolves have come up just one round short. Anthony Edwards is averaging a career-best 29.6 points per game while shooting the best percentages of his life. It’s time to do something with that sort of superstardom.

Minnesota Timberwolves Superstar Out Again https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-timberwolves/anthony-edwards-injury-latest-wolves-rockets/ Fri, 16 Jan 2026 14:41:38 +0000 https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/?p=79262 The Minnesota Timberwolves will get back on the floor tonight in Houston against a 23-15 Rockets team that has lost four of its last five games and feels on the verge of falling from the sky.

Meanwhile, tonight’s road team has no such worries. The Wolves have soared to wins in five of their last six. Their most recent victory came on the road, via 139-106 blowout victory over the Milwaukee Bucks — a game Minnesota dominated without superstar Anthony Edwards in the lineup.

Anthony Edwards injury keeps him out again

Recently, Ant started being listed on the injury report before games with a foot injury. When he was ruled out against the Bucks, his official designation was “right foot injury maintenance”, which seems key. Even without Ant or Rudy Gobert (suspension), it didn’t matter on Tuesday.

So on Friday, with a national audience watching (ESPN), the Wolves are rolling the dice again and resting superstar Anthony Edwards, with the same designation as earlier in the week.

On the season, Anthony Edwards is averaging a career high 28.9 points per game, to go along with 5 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game. His offensive rating is up to an absurd 119 — also a career high.

But Ant isn’t slipping on the defensive end, either, so losing him on that end hurts too. On the year, he’s averaging 1.3 steals per game and a career high 0.8 blocks. His defensive rating is 113, which is right around his career average.

Minnesota Timberwolves need role players to step up again

According to what the Minnesota Timberwolves have put out there, we have nothing to worry about, with Anthony Edwards’ injury. From the sounds of it, he could be playing in these games, were they, say, playoff games.

Related: MN Timberwolves Eyeing Familiar Trade Deadline Consolation Prize

But they aren’t and the Wolves need their superstar as close to 100% as possible, once we do get later in the season. Still, in a tight Western Conference, every win matters.

So without Anthony Edwards on the floor Friday, they need to punch early and often against a Rockets team that has already been back on its heels recently. Getting Rudy Gobert back should certainly help. We’ll see how much Joan Beringer we get, after his big night on Tuesday (30 MP, 13 PTS, 5 REB, +30).

Unfortunately for Terrance Shannon Jr, he is injured too, so the second-year wing will not enjoy any of Ant’s 35+ minutes tonight.

Anthony Edwards Has One Regret Reaching 10K Points… and Kobe Would Hate It https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-timberwolves/anthony-edwards-10000-points-kobe-bryant-mamba-mentality/ Fri, 09 Jan 2026 15:20:58 +0000 https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/?p=78439 The Minnesota Timberwolves hosted the Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday night, with Anthony Edwards entering the game just 23 points (what a coincidence) shy of 10,000 career points. He was set to become the third-youngest player in NBA history to reach the milestone, trailing only LeBron James and Kevin Durant.

Unsurprisingly, the Timberwolves star got it done, and so did Minnesota, winning 131–122. After the game, Edwards discussed the achievement, and the late Kobe Bryant’s name came up in the conversation.

MN Timberwolves Star Doesn’t Show the Mamba Mentality

LeBron James reached 10,000 points more than a year younger than Edwards did. Kevin Durant accomplished the feat just over 100 days earlier. Kobe Bryant, however, reached the milestone 38 days after Edwards, a detail that became part of Edwards’ postgame reflection.

“To be honest, it’s cool, but I know I got a lot more to go so it’s really nothing. I’m kinda sick that I got in front of Kobe (Bryant). I wish I would’ve waited like, 100 days or something, but yeah it’s all good.”

Anthony Edwards

Edwards finished the night with 25 points on 10-of-20 shooting. He went 4-of-7 from deep, dished out nine assists, and posted a plus-19 in a strong all-around performance.

That “wish I would’ve waited” comment may have Kobe Bryant turning in his grave. The Mamba Mentality is defined as a mindset centered on the relentless pursuit of excellence, continuous self-improvement, and becoming the best version of oneself through hard work, dedication, and resilience, fueled by passion, fearlessness, and obsession.

In short, Kobe wasn’t waiting on anything.

It’s admirable that Edwards acknowledged the late superstar, but Bryant likely would’ve preferred hearing how frustrated he was that he didn’t chase down his childhood idol Kevin Durant. Maybe even a suggestion that he’s aiming to join LeBron in the 40,000-point club would’ve been more fitting.

At the end of the day, Edwards is a six-year pro still looking to take the next step. He’s knocking on the door of an MVP award while averaging a career-best 29.2 points per game. His 50.4% field-goal percentage is also a career high, and he’s not far behind Luka Dončić’s league-leading 33.7 points per game.

Minnesota returns to action Saturday afternoon with another matchup against the Cavaliers, this time on the road, where Edwards will have another opportunity to deliver a stellar performance.

MN Timberwolves Credit Chris Finch Meltdown for Huge Victory https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-timberwolves/chris-finch-meltdown-ejection-wolves-thunder/ Sat, 20 Dec 2025 16:46:38 +0000 https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/?p=76120 The Minnesota Timberwolves entered their contest on Friday night against the Oklahoma City Thunder with everything to prove. Remember, OKC knocked the Wolves out of the 2024-25 NBA Playoffs, on their way to winning a title.

On top of that, the 2025-26 Thunder were 25-2 on the season, entering last night’s Western Conference Finals rematch. Thus, it wasn’t all that surprising when, midway through the first quarter, the MN Timberwolves started to fall behind.

Edwards looked rusty, after missing a couple of games with an injury. His teammates weren’t hitting shots, either, and the referees forgot to turn their whistles on before the game.

Minnesota Timberwolves coach loses his mind on NBA referee

Then, with the Wolves down five points with 6:19 remaining in the quarter, OKC committed two egregious against Edwards and Julius Randle that were not called. And just like that, Chris Finch erupted.

The fourth-year head coach stormed onto the court, in chase of crew chief Courtney Kirkland, yelling and screaming profanities the entire way, as his assistant coaches attempted to hold him back.

Obviously, Finch was ejected early on during the exchange.

It might be the most riled up I’ve ever Chris Finch. Normally, he is calm, cool and collected… but he has been known to run hot when refs get him going. Still, it had been a while since we’ve seen anything on this scale.

Anthony Edwards returns with massive performance

Minnesota went into early warmups on Friday without knowing whether or not superstar Anthony Edwards — who had sat out the two games prior — would be able to play.

Thankfully, Ant did play because the Timberwolves needed every last one of the 26 points, 12 rebounds, 3 assists, 32 steals and 2 blocks that gave them on one of the best all-around nights he has played this season.

And then, to cap it all off, Ant hit the game-winning three pointer that put the Wolves up 108-107 with 40 seconds left. The game finished 112-107.

Chris Finch credited for MN Timberwolves win

After the win, however, it wasn’t Edwards who Wolves players were crediting as their key to victory. Instead, everyone in the locker room afterwards praised Chris Finch.

According to every single Wolves player after the game, it was Finchy’s ejection that gave them the juice needed to overcome the league’s best team… even though the head coach watched 85% of the game from his office.

“I’ve never seen him run on the court. … I’ll take it. It got us going, flipped the script. It was exciting to see… He definitely got his money’s worth” – Naz Reid

“I know coach Finch didn’t want to get kicked out right there. But that really got us going.” – Micah Nori

Timberwolves Sniffing Around a New Superstar Point Guard; Out on Another https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-timberwolves/nba-trade-rumors-kyrie-irving-mn-timberwolves/ Mon, 08 Dec 2025 17:32:17 +0000 https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/?p=74692 On Monday night, the 15-8 Minnesota Timberwolves will get back on the court to protect what is now a five-game win streak. If they want to push it to six games, they’ll have to defeat the 13-10 Phoenix Suns, who will be without Devin Booker for yet another game, as he recovers from a groin injury.

The Wolves continue to get better, as the year goes on and the rotation gets used to having Anthony Edwards run the point. But the experiment is still ongoing.

Because yes, the Timberwolves are winning. But Ant is still struggling to figure out how to best operate as the team’s primary ball-handler. In the past two wins, Edwards — who is averaging 28.1 points per game — has scored a combined 26 points.

Minnesota Timberwolves still searching for elite point guard help

By the end of the regular season, it’s very possible Edwards and the MN Timberwolves figure out the best ways to take advantage of the superstar’s new role. But behind the scenes, president of basketball operations Tim Connelly has made it pretty clear that he’s not interested in betting on that reality coming to fruition.

The Timberwolves are a team on the verge of true contention in the rugged Western Conference. They have been active in trade rumors, as they seek an elite point guard to pair with franchise cornerstone Anthony Edwards.

Scoop B Robinson – scoopb.com

Since the start of the NBA season, when it became clear that the Rob Dillingham was not ready to step into a significant role in the point guard rotation, we’ve continually seen the Timberwolves connected to possibly available ball-handlers.

Just a couple of weeks ago, insiders around the league were connecting Minnesota to Ja Morant, who can’t seem to get things right out in Memphis. But according to NBA insider Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson, the Ja Morant dream is dead.

Timberwolves + Ja Morant dream is dead

Morant has publicly made it clear he wants to stay with the Grizzlies, who are not shopping their troubled 26-year-old All-NBA talent.

While many have suggested that Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant would be a fit in Minnesota, sources on the Morant side have repeatedly shared with me that he wants to remain a member of the Memphis GrizzliesThis commitment, combined with Memphis’s public stance of not shopping their star, has made a Morant trade highly unlikely.

Scoop B Robinson – scoopb.com

So, where is Connelly’s PG hunt going to turn next? Well, Robinson has that answer as well, and he’s pointing to another Western Conference team struggling to find victories early this year… and one that’s became synonymous with league-altering trades recently.

After the Dallas Mavericks shocked the basketball world by dealing Luka Doncic to LA Lakers, before they landed the No. 1 overall draft pick and used it to select Cooper Flagg, the new-look Mavs have started the 2025-26 season with a 9-16 overall record.

The Mavs are currently outside-looking-in on the Western Conference playoff/play-in picture, sitting 11th in the standings. Thus, rumors have been swirling around whether or not the Mavericks will finish what their former GM Nico Harrison started.

Dallas got back in the win column Sunday night in an impressive win over Houston, but if their losing ways continue or Anthony Davis can’t stay healthy, it’s possible Dallas could be forced to blow up things up by trading Davis and Kyrie Irving before the February 5 trade deadline.

MN Timberwolves want Kyrie Irving

And if that happens, according to Scoop B Robinson, the Minnesota Timberwolves want in on Kyrie trade talks.

A name that has been quietly floated to me [for the Timberwolves] is one that brings with it the pedigree of an NBA Champion and an elite shot-creator: Kyrie Irving.

A well-placed and respected NBA fixture shared a belief that Irving, when healthy, would be the missing piece for Minnesota.

The fixture told me that “Irving in Minnesota makes the Timberwolves a contender” and that the combination of Anthony Edwards and Kyrie Irving is potent enough for the team to legitimately contend in the West.

Scoop B Robinson – scoopb.com

Kyrie Irving seems like he has been in the league forever, mostly because he has. When he plays his first game this season, it will be the official start of his 15th year in the NBA.

But Irving — who has spent all of the 2025-26 season rehabbing from a torn ACL he suffered during the 2024-25 NBA season — is just 33 years old. Prior to his devastating March knee injury, Irving averaged 24.7 points, 5.1 assists and 3.7 rebounds per game last season.

Related: Anthony Edwards Sets MN Timberwolves Franchise Record

Without a doubt, a healthy Kyrie would make the Minnesota Timberwolves a bona fide NBA title contender. There is no official timetable for when the 9x All-Star could return to the basketball floor, but the latest reports say it’s coming sometime next year, possibly as early as January.

Anthony Edwards wants Kyrie Irving in Minnesota

But it isn’t just Tim Connelly who wants to get a deal done for Kyrie Irving. According to Robinson, Anthony Edwards would love to see such a talent land in Minnesota, and that he is even advocating for the move.

Crucially, they also shared that Anthony Edwards himself is advocating for the move.

I followed up on this line of thinking with a source on the Timberwolves’ side to gauge the internal perspective on a potential pairing. The response was telling.

“Ant has a mutual respect for Kyrie and for what he’s done in this league,” a Timberwolves source with knowledge tells me. “If Kyrie came it would be sweet.”

Scoop B Robinson – scoopb.com

As of now, the Dallas Mavericks have made it very clear that they have no interest in trading Kyrie Irving. But it’s very possible that, without their starting point guard on the floor, the Mavs could fall too far out of the Western Conference playoff race for that to matter.

If Dallas isn’t a serious contender by the time Irving is ready to return, it’s plausible he could start to force the Mavs hand, something we’ve seen him do at multiple stops during his career.

Because it’s obvious to anyone asked the question… Kyrie + Edwards with the Minnesota Timberwolves would be a PROBLEM for the rest of the league.

Anthony Edwards EXTREMELY Confident He’ll Carry Timberwolves to a Championship https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-timberwolves/anthony-edwards-relentless-nba-championship-pursuit-guarantee/ Thu, 04 Dec 2025 01:07:03 +0000 https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/?p=74151 It’s not unreasonable to suggest the Minnesota Timberwolves could chase a championship this season. But on Tuesday night, Chris Finch’s group needed overtime just to slip past a 3-18 New Orleans Pelicans team, a reminder that the road is far from smooth.

One thing is clear, though: the problem in Minnesota certainly does not lie with Anthony Edwards. The franchise star knows he has to elevate to an entirely new level in order to win a ring. He’s working towards that daily, and he won’t stop short of achieving it.

Timberwolves Get a Guarantee From Anthony Edwards

Edwards has been a dynamic force since the moment he entered the league. The No. 1 Pick in the 2020 draft continues to push the limits of his game, and his latest comments make it clear he’s nowhere close to finished.

If there’s one person who will never doubt Anthony Edwards’ greatness, it’s Anthony Edwards. At just 24 years old, he remains relentless, pushing himself forward with a level of tenacity few players can match.

Although he missed some time earlier this year, Edwards has appeared in 17 games and is averaging a career-best 29.8 points per game. Last season, he led the NBA in three-pointers made, and his 41.3% mark from deep this year is an improvement over his already strong 39.5% clip in 2024.

Edwards is currently riding a streak of six straight games with more than 30 points, and he’s cleared 40 in half of them.

Michael Jordan Dotes on Anthony Edwards

You can debate the running joke about whether Anthony Edwards might be Michael Jordan’s long lost son, but the comparison speaks to something real: Edwards would love to reach Jordan’s heights, and the NBA legend had him on his mind this offseason.

Edwards knows who the greatest player of all time is, and Jordan has firsthand experience with the pressures and evolution Edwards is now navigating. As the Timberwolves star continues finding his place in the league, more layers of his game will undoubtedly emerge.

Minnesota is witnessing something special as Edwards continues tapping into his immense potential. And given what he’s already producing, it’s wild to think we still haven’t seen his ceiling. The Timberwolves will need even more if they are going to win a title, and Edwards remains the most likely player to deliver it.

Anthony Edwards Sets MN Timberwolves Franchise Record https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-timberwolves/anthony-edwards-30-point-games-franchise-record/ Mon, 01 Dec 2025 03:00:44 +0000 https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/?p=73794 It has been an ugly run for the Minnesota Timberwolves of late. Anthony Edwards helped to waste a 40-burger against the Phoenix Suns, and the team carried their problems into a loss against the Sacramento Kings. Then an ugly closing stretch against Oklahoma City sank them into a three-game losing streak.

Minnesota bested the Boston Celtics on Saturday, and returned in a back-to-back Sunday with arguably the best closing stretch they have had all season. Edwards was in the middle of it, and he set a new franchise record in the process.

Timberwolves scoring title belongs to Anthony Edwards

Plenty of hoopla is generated when a player goes off for 40 or 50 points. Those are the outlier games though. Traditionally, an MVP-caliber player is going to average around 30 points per game, and now no one in Minnesota Timberwolves franchise history has had more of those games than Anthony Edwards.

Playing against the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday night, Edwards poured in 32 points for the Timberwolves. It was the 102nd time he has crossed the 30-point threshold in his career, and it broke a franchise tie with now New York Knicks big man Karl-Anthony Towns.

Minnesota saw Edwards reach the new record in 397 career games. Towns’ tally came across 573 games. Although the game was different back then, Kevin Garnett hit 30 points just 82 times in 970 games with the Timberwolves.

Edwards is averaging a career-best 28.7 points per game this season, but is being asked to do more overall. Since Tim Connelly didn’t shuffle the roster much this offseason, more pressure falls on the shoulders of Edwards. If Chris Finch’s team is going to make their first NBA Finals then the superstar has to find a new level. He can’t close out games like he did when they blew it against the Suns, but a 36-19 finish Sunday against the Spurs shows that the Timberwolves do have that dog somewhere in them.

Now 12-8 this season, the Minnesota Timberwolves can build momentum off of their latest win. They are back in action Tuesday in New Orleans against the Pelicans. The two sides play each other in consecutive contests with another road tilt on Thursday.

Kevin Love Knew Jazz Were Cooked Early vs Timberwolves https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-timberwolves/kevin-love-saw-anthony-edwards-performance-coming/ Tue, 11 Nov 2025 22:42:06 +0000 https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/?p=71669 The Minnesota Timberwolves haven’t necessarily lit the league on fire this season, but they have handled business. Despite being without Anthony Edwards early due to a hamstring injury, they are still 7-4 with plenty of bright spots.

NBA Cup action kicked off last Friday and Minnesota handled business against a mediocre Utah Jazz team. They then got to see the same outfit on Monday and the result was the same. Former Timberwolves big man Kevin Love saw what was coming from the jump.

MN Timberwolves made things tough for Kevin Love’s new team

After spending 2.5 seasons in Miami with the Heat, Kevin Love signed with the Utah Jazz this offseason. Now in his 18th year, the 37-year-old has seen some things. He knows enough to see when an onslaught is coming, and he predicted it on Friday night.

This is what stars do. This is what leaders do. This is who Edwards, in his sixth season, has become. On a team filled with quieter personalities, Edwards is the blue flame that lights the water heater. Target Center is never louder than when Edwards is rolling. The Wolves are never more dangerous than when Edwards is on the hunt.

During that opening flurry, 18-year NBA veteran Kevin Love was watching from the Jazz bench.

“I looked at the rest of the guys and said we’re in for a long night,” Love said.

The Athletic

A long night probably wasn’t quite foreshadowing enough. The game in question resulted with a 40-point Timberwolves win. It was more of a statement than even the obnoxious green court they were playing on. Love played just three minutes but still logged a minus-6.

Edwards on the other hand, who logged a plus-32 in just 26 minutes, poured in 37 points. After missing four games, Edwards needed to get his legs back under him. That didn’t happen against the New York Knicks, but it played out in a big way against the Jazz.

Utah saw the same results repeat themselves on Monday night when Minnesota won by just seven points. It was a road game, but Edwards poured in 35 on 52% shooting.

As Love alluded to, it’s Edwards that is the difference maker for the Timberwolves. When the 24-year-old is on, he generates the level of hype only elite superstars can produce. Minnesota is hoping he can be on more often than not as they seek an opportunity to reach the NBA Finals for the first time in franchise history.

Love has been around the league long enough to understand game flow. Chris Finch will try to generate positive momentum plenty for the Minnesota Timberwolves this season. If Edwards is playing at his best, then it wouldn’t be shocking to see him pick up his first MVP award along the way.

Timberwolves Star Getting Healthier https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-timberwolves/anthony-edwards-cleared-contact-hamstring-injury-update/ Mon, 03 Nov 2025 17:19:03 +0000 https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/?p=70880 The Minnesota Timberwolves are .500 after their first six games of the season. They’ll be back on the court Monday night against the 0-6 Brooklyn Nets. Unfortunately they have been without superstar Anthony Edwards of late, but he is trending in the right direction.

Edwards suffered a hamstring injury against the Indiana Pacers. It was expected that he would miss around two weeks. While Minnesota isn’t yet ready to bring their star back into the rotation, he has been cleared for the next phase of his rehab.

Anthony Edwards cleared for contact

Chris Finch has pieced together lineups with Anthony Edwards out of action. The Minnesota Timberwolves need to win regular season games, but their goals are much more lofty as well. That means they should play the long game with their superstar. The latest update clears Edwards for another step, but won’t quite have him back in game action yet.

Edwards, who suffered a right hamstring strain on Sunday, Oct. 26 during the Timberwolves vs. Indiana Pacers game, has been cleared for contact basketball activities.

Edwards’ game availability will remain as out as he continues to progress through his return-to-play rehabilitation program. Further updates of his progress will be provided when available.

Minnesota Timberwolves

The Timberwolves have missed Edwards for three games, and he will be out for his fourth on Monday. Minnesota has a tilt against New York on Wednesday before opening NBA Cup play on Friday at home against the Utah Jazz.

Minnesota could choose to be conservative and keep Edwards out through the weekend, which would represent a total time missed of seven games. Whatever decision they make will be in the best interest of Edwards going forward.

Through three games this season, he has averaged 25.7 points per game. Edwards has connected on 51.9% from the floor, and he has made 47.4% from deep. In the first five years of his career, Edwards has been remarkably healthy. He has played in at least 72 games each season, and was in 79 games each of the past three seasons.

Minnesota Timberwolves president Tim Connelly didn’t shuffle the roster too much this offseason. That means plenty of the playmaking onus remains on Edwards’ shoulders. The more that Finch can rely on him to be the catalyst for the offense, the better.

Hopefully Edwards is wrapping up his only time missed this season. If the Timberwolves get his rehab right, and build him back up, there’s a good chance that winds up being the case.
