Timberwolves Anthony Edwards Puts Michael Jordan on a Pedestal
Minnesota Timberwolves playmaker Anthony Edwards has taken the NBA by storm. The superstar talent is fresh off a gold medal for Team USA in the Olympics. As he reflected on his time overseas, a single quote stood out.
Minnesota Timberwolves Anthony Edwards gives nod to Michael Jordan
The NBA has certainly changed over the years. Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards is aware of that. He wasn’t around to experience the heyday of Michael Jordan. That doesn’t mean he doesn’t have high praise for a man considered the GOAT. Talking with Lane Florsheim of the Wall Street Journal, Edwards put Jordan in a class of his own.
“I didn’t watch it back in the day so I can’t speak on it. They say it was tougher back then than it is now, but I don’t think anybody had skill back then. [Michael Jordan] was the only one that really had skill, you know what I mean? So that’s why when they saw Kobe [Bryant], they were like, “Oh, my God.” But now everybody has skill.”

Edwards knows what is in front of him this season, but it’s not yet championship or bust. The Timberwolves got close a year ago, and there’s no denying that Edwards wants to get there. The pressure isn’t on just yet though.
“I don’t know too many guys who won a championship super young, besides Kobe. Other than him, everybody took years and years of losing to get there. I just want to keep taking the next step.”

The Timberwolves guard has done a lot in the last month. Nothing will top the dunk that he threw down on an alley-oop from all-time favorite Kevin Durant.
Old guard doesn’t love Timberwolves’ Anthony Edwards comments
Of course Michael Jordan will take the praise from Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards. The younger gets compared to his game all the time, and it has to be somewhat flattering. That doesn’t mean everyone enjoyed the comment though. Hall of Famer Isiah Thomas took issue and made that known.

Edwards has an incredible swagger about him, and that won’t always sit right with previous generations. He will be unapologetically himself, and at times that creates great moments. Charles Barkley got a show worthy of his butt relocating to Minnesota when the Timberwolves knocked off the Dallas Mavericks. The two generations certainly connected over the off the cuff quote.

It remains to be seen how the 2024-25 season goes for the Timberwolves. This may not yet be the season Anthony Edwards win an MVP award or a ring. You can bet he’ll continue to plan those seeds though.
