Vikings Would Take Kirk Cousins Back at 2 Years, $60 Million in a Heartbeat

The Minnesota Vikings will scramble together the best possible gameplans they can for the rest of the 2023 season, however long that lasts. But it’s clear, behind the scenes, that head coach Kevin O’Connell, and likely the Wilfs, are not interested in employing a mediocre QB in 2024. Which brings us to Kirk Cousins.

Last week, Pro Football Focus came out with a top-100 list of pending free agents, along with they’re projected market value this offseason. The person heading the project for PFF, Brad Spielberger, used to work for Over the Cap and has spent ample time in NFL front offices. Spielberger is seen as a cap guru, one of the most trusted out there.

Kirk Cousins worth 2 years, $60 million?

So, when Brad ranked Kirk Cousins his #2 overall pending free agent, it got some attention around the football world. The price to sign Kirk, according to PFF? 2-years, $60 million ($37.5 million guaranteed).

In a world where starting quarterbacks are signing $40-$50 million contracts, $30 million per season sounds pretty good, right? Well, the Vikings apparently think so.

According to Darren Wolfson (SKOR North, KSTP), they would jump at the opportunity to put Cousins under contract for two seasons, $60 million with one of the years guaranteed.

Mackey: “What are your thoughts on 2 years, $60 million with one year guaranteed and some other money that bleeds into the second year?”

Wolfson: “The Vikings do that deal, I do that deal in a heartbeat. Like, zero hesitation. That’s an easy yes. But who cares what I think, I really believe the Vikings do that deal, yes.”

The closer we get to the NFL offseason, the more likely it seems that Kirk Cousins will be back in purple and playing for the Minnesota Vikings. Whether it’s $30 million or something similar, it appears Kwesi & Co are willing to sign up for at least two more seasons of Kirk, especially if not all of it is guaranteed.
