Kevin O’Connell Will be “One of the Greats” Says NFL Super Agent
The Minnesota Vikings know they have a special head coach, in Kevin O’Connell, which is why last week’s trade rumors were better off ignored. In his third season as Vikings head coach, KOC is a lock to win NFL Coach of the Year for the first time.
After Minnesota’s 14-3 regular season, O’Connell’s career record as a head coach is now 34-17 (.667 win %). The 39-year-old head coach is about to embark on his 2nd playoff in just three seasons. The only year he missed was 2023, the same season Kirk Cousins was lost for the season to an achilles tear in week 8.
Player agents in all major sports mostly fly under the radar. They do their work and their connecting behind the scenes, which makes sense since their job is to be the go-between for players and the team/organization that employs them.

But there are certain agents who are even higher profile than most of the players they represent. In baseball, that agent is Scott Boras, who represents Twins shortstop Carlos Correa. In football, it’s Drew Rosenhaus, whose clients are some of the biggest names in the NFL.
Rosenhaus Sports represents Tyreek Hill, Patrick Mahomes, Aaron Rodgers and Darius Slay, among many many others. He also represents multiple Minnesota Vikings players, including Christian Darrisaw, Jonathan Greenard, Aaron Jones, Josh Metellus and Andrew Van Ginkel.

Rosenhaus represents some coaches, too, but Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell is not one of them. The super agent has sat down with KOC during contract and free agent negotiations with general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah. And in those meetings, Drew Rosenhaus was blown away by O’Connell in multiple ways.
Drew Rosenhaus loves Minnesota Vikings Kevin O’Connell
He talked about it on the Pat McAfee Show Thursday, where he called KOC “special” and even went as far as to say that “he’s going to be one of the greats”. Remember, this is a guy who has met just about every front office executive in the league that matters, not to mention any head coach who has a say in personnel decisions. And he doesn’t talk about any of them like this.

“I’ll tell you a story. I’m at the combine in your great city of Indianapolis. I meet with teams at the combine. Of course you’re talking about business with them. One of the head coaches who sits in on the meeting, Kevin O’Connell. I’m not going to put him in a bad spot, but he blew me away. The guy is more than a coach. In the way that [Bill] Belichick understands personnel, on top of coaching and how everything comes together with signing players, getting new guys, the salary cap, O’Connell is special. He’s going to be one of the greats. He is really impressive.”

The Minnesota Vikings needed a culture shift, following the firing of Mike Zimmer, and Kevin O’Connell gave them exactly what they were looking for. With an established quarterback like Kirk Cousins under center in 2022, we didn’t understand the genius of KOC.
This season, the veil has been lifted, and there’s no doubt the Minnesota Vikings made a home run hire with KOC, and there’s no reason to think our favorite football team will be in the market for a new head coach anytime soon.
This. This right here. 💜💛

What O’Connell does in developing J.J. McCarthy could be the real deciding factor in the first 5-10 years of his head coaching career. But so far, there’s nothing in his tenure that lends us to doubt whether or not he and JJ can be great together.

In his first year, O’Connell made Cousins into the best version of himself. During year two, after Cousins went out for the season, KOC made Josh Dobbs and Nick Mullens look serviceable. Now, Sam Darnold has gone from from bust to legitimate MVP candidate.
Pay this man whatever he wants and make it a lifetime deal.
