Kevin O’Connell Played Major Role in Hiring New MN Vikings GM

The Minnesota Vikings have their new general manager signed — in former Seahawks AGM, Nolan Teasley — a move that that was made official by the organization on Monday afternoon via press release.
Given what has been reported since Tom Pelissero first broke the news that Teasley was being hired, many have called the Vikings’ new organizational hierarchy a new “Triangle of Authority — a term first coined two decades ago.
Minnesota Vikings officially announce Nolan Teasley as GM
Well, today’s press release — which included direct quotes from the Wilfs, Teasley, Kevin O’Connell and Rob Brzezinski — left no doubt that’s EXACTLY what this is.
Welcome to Minnesota, Nolan!

Obviously, the Wilfs trust that this latest three-headed decision-making monster will live a much more fruitful life than what Rick Spielman, Rob Brzezinski and Brad Childress did.
Only time will tell whether or not Brzezinski, Teasley and O’Connell can remain unified long enough to bring the type of success to Minnesota that everyone involved clearly envisions.
Regardless, the Vikings will now move forward with a leadership structure unlike many others around professional sports. Whether it’s built upon the use of a classic kind of general manager, or a new aged president of (in this case) football operations, the buck usually stops at someone.
New Triangle of Authority confirmed
Now that he has technically the highest-ranking title, we believe Nolan Teasley has final say in most Minnesota Vikings decisions, but how far does that stretch?
Not only is head coach Kevin O’Connell another corner of this new triangle, who will have a ton of say in player personnel decision, but defensive coordinator Brian Flores will still have a large say in how his defense is constructed, as well.
And what about Rob Brzezinski… how do his duties now coincide with those of Teasley’s? In all likelihood, the Vikings will have to answer many of these kinds of questions themselves, as they establish everyone’s new role over the next handful of months, and into the start of the 2026 NFL season.
Teasley will join forces with O’Connell and Brzezinski, who was tabbed by Vikings owners to lead the personnel department and coaching staff through the 2026 offseason following Minnesota’s decision to part ways with former GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah on Jan. 31 after four seasons.
O’Connell described Teasley as a “strong leader with great vision for building and sustaining a winning football team.”
Minnesota Vikings Press Release
Given the history the Wilfs have with Triangles of Authority, what’s most telling about Minnesota’s new organizational structure, is just how much trust the ownership group has in Rob, Kevin and now Nolan to make something like this work.
Obviously, everyone around the league is well aware of how good a soldier Brzezinski is. There’s a reason why he’s been around more than 27 years and lasted through multiple coaching/front office/ownership regimes.
Kevin O’Connell played huge role in hiring Nolan Teasley
When it comes to Kevin O’Connell, we all know how good he is at playing nice with those around him. But according to Adam Schefter (ESPN), the Wilfs made sure their ballyhooed head coach played a massive role in their hiring process, which ultimately landed on Nolan Teasley.
The hope is that his involvement will give the MN Vikings’ unique new leadership structure the best possible chance at success. It’s worth noting too that the Vikings are hiring Teasley — who has never worked with KOC before — over multiple executives KOC has hands-on experience with.

Nolan Teasley had a great reputation in Seattle and the Seahawks really wanted to keep him" @AdamSchefter #PMSLive pic.twitter.com/pHaZav0IOj
If the Minnesota Vikings were going to go with another three-way power structure, it makes sense that they allowed Kevin O’Connell to play such a large role.
Prior to the report from Schefter above, we knew KOC was involved in the interview process, but we did not know how much his opinion weighed into the Wilfs’ final decision. Now, we know it weighed in heavily.
Does that guarantee success? Of course not, and I’m still not convinced this is the best route our favorite football team could have gone during this GM search.

However, I’m inclined to believe that this new triangle has a much better chance of working out, and remaining as ego-free as possible, compared to the last time we tried this.
As we now know, Rick Spielman always wanted full control of the Minnesota Vikings. In this case, I’m not sure anybody involved is in search of more power individually. In the end, we’ll see if that proves true.
