There were rumors floating around NFL Draft insider circles this week that the Minnesota Vikings had already completed a trade to send soon-to-be 29-year-old EDGE rusher Jonathan Greenard to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for additional draft capital this weekend and into the future.

Then, moments ago, the trade happened, meaning insider Ollie Connelly‘s recent “slip up” this week during his “Read Optional” Podcast was either an incredibly lucky coincidence OR an insight into how some of these deals are agreed upon long before they become public knowledge.

In return for Greenard, the MN Vikings receive pick No. 98 tonight and a third round pick for next year. To sweeten the deal for Philly, Minnesota threw in pick No. 244 (7th rounder) tomorrow.

How does the money work in Greenard trade?

Shortly after the trade was announced, we got word that the Eagles have agreed to an extension with Greenard worth four years, $100 million ($25 million per year). That’s $6 million more in yearly salary than what he was scheduled to make in 2026 with the Vikings and saves Minnesota around $35 million over the next two years.

In other words, Rob Brzezinski or whoever the MN Vikings next GM is, will have some money to spend the rest of this offseason, to continue to improve a roster that the Wilfs believe can compete in 2026.

Jonathan Greenard leaves Minnesota after compiling 97 tackles, 15 sacks and 34 QB hits as a Viking. He also managed 28 TFL, 5 forced fumbles and 6 passes defended.
