Did the Minnesota Vikings Already Trade Jonathan Greenard?
The Minnesota Vikings are scheduled to be on the clock tonight, in round one of the NFL Draft, at No. 18 overall. Going in, most NFL insiders and draft experts have the Vikings on Oregon safety, Dillon Thieneman.
In fact, there is so much steam connecting Thieneman to Minnesota that you have to wonder if it’s too thick to be water vapor at all. Because when you take a step back, it looks an awful lot like smoke.
Of course, we only have to wait a matter of hours to find out what is real and what is not, at least when it comes to Day 1 of the NFL Draft.
But on Thursday afternoon, some new rumors began percolating, regarding a familiar topic that has less to do with what the MN Vikings and other teams plan/hope to accomplish in the first round tonight.
MN Vikings have already traded Jonathan Greenard?
On the most recent episode of the “Read Optional” podcast ($$$ Substack), with NFL insider and former scout Oliver Connolly — who broke the Ruben Bain story that shook up the NFL Draft world last week — seemingly had a slip-up while talking about the Philadelphia Eagles draft plans.
Jon Ledyard (Audibles and Analytics Substack) — another popular fringe NFL media member with a large following and Connolly’s co-host on Read Optional — asks Connolly about his note on the Eagles, which includes a trade with the Vikings for Greenard, and whether he is breaking news or missing something.
Ollie responds by saying, “I assume [the Greenard to Eagles trade] is out there, right?” — to which, Ledyard responds, “I don’t think so, Ollie…”
Jon: “OK, Philly is on the clock here. You’re saying they’re getting Jonathan Greenard, huh? Is this breaking news or is this out there?”
Ollie: “I assume it’s out there, right?
Jon: “I don’t think so, Ollie.
Ollie: “Okay. Uh-oh…”
Jon: “You’re gonna get aggregated.”
Ollie: “Uhhh…This has become trickier. I think the EDGE need will be sold on the second and third day of the draft, both through a trade and trying to find one of the real speedsters off the ball, adding an extra pass-rusher to the mix.”

Of course, the rumors that the Philadelphia Eagles are interested in Jonathan Greenard are NOT new. Going back months, to when Greenard and his representation first asked the Minnesota Vikings to seek out a trade, it’s been the Eagles who have repeatedly come up as likely bidders for his services.
However, this raises questions over how much insiders really know, when it comes to possible happenings behind the NFL scenes. Is Oliver Connolly the only reporter who already has Greenard in a Philadelphia Eagles uniform?

If his information is correct, and the 28-year-old EDGE has already been traded under the table, then there is no doubt other insiders know what he knows.
However, it’s possible the draft goes by this weekend without Greenard being moved. If that’s the case, then it’d be more likely Connolly is working off bad information.
