Familiar Vikings Trade Rumors Gaining Major Steam Ahead of Draft

The 2026 NFL Draft is just a few days away. On Thursday night, the Minnesota Vikings will (more than likely) make some lucky college football player the 69th first round pick in franchise history. Nice.
For now, the Vikings are slotted in at No. 18 overall. While there have been some “experts” suggesting a trade up, it’s much more likely Rob Brzezinski stays put or trades back, should he get an opportunity.
But anything can happen during the NFL Draft, a fact that catches us off guard every April, at some point.
Jonathan Greenard + MN Vikings trade rumors heating back up
And that brings us to Monday morning’s slew of insider reports involving the MN Vikings and discontent defensive EDGE, Jonathan Greenard, and a possible trade sometime between now and the end of the draft this weekend.
In fact, there were nearly a handful of NFL insiders who, early Monday morning, reported some sort of update on Greenard’s trade status heading into draft week. The only team listed by name, however, were the Philadelphia Eagles.
League sources say that general manager Howie Roseman is plotting to make a deal on draft weekend. Roseman usually has a trick or two up his sleeve, and other front office executives suspect there’s one coming this week.
One possibility is adding Vikings linebacker Jonathan Greenard, whom the Eagles have checked in on at various points this offseason, per sources...The Vikings have been adamant about getting a premium Day 2 pick for Greenard.
League sources say the Eagles and Vikings could revisit discussions they already have had during the upcoming draft, but talks have lost steam in recent weeks. The Eagles’ wish list of trade candidates goes well beyond Greenard, per sources, though.

More Vikings Draft Rumors: Nebraska RB Says Vikings’ Interest is Legit
Earlier this offseason, Rosenhaus made it clear to the Vikings that, unless they planned to give his client a massive raise this offseason, from the $19 million he’s scheduled to make, they wanted a trade.
So instead of a fat new deal, Minnesota gave the soon-to-be 29-year-old permission to seek out potential trade partners. As noted by Schefter, the Vikings are demanding a “premium Day 2 pick for Greenard”.
Greenard negotiations to watch: Rosenhaus vs Eagles
Unfortunately for Jonathan, Rosenhaus Sports has struggled to find a team willing to pay the Vikings’ trade toll, especially knowing they’ll also have to Greenard $30 million per year upon his arrival.
However, the draft provides another window of opportunity for the Eagles, or any other team, to meet the Minnesota Vikings’ asking price for an elite pass rusher. And Philly desperately needs a good pass rusher.

Of course, today’s sudden trade winds involving Jonathan Greenard are probably blowing directly out of Rosenhaus’ office window. That doesn’t mean we should ignore them, however.
In this scenario, it means quite the opposite. The Vikings have made it clear that they have nothing to negotiate. They are only considering a trade because his side brought it up. Thus, they aren’t dealing him for anything other than a premium return.
So if Greenard wants a raise and change in scenery that badly, he and his representation may have to consider lowering his contract demands. Should that happen, a deal suddenly becomes much more likely, given these reports today.

Vikings prefer to keep Greenard, who wants new deal. A trade 'really not something (Minnesota's) trying to do,' per source.
But trade interest is there, and draft is natural spot for teams to take another crack. https://t.co/vHK12zt24t
Do the Eagles want a starting-caliber pass rusher on roster before the start of the NFL Draft, or not? If so, then they better get with Rosenhaus and figure it out. Meanwhile, the Minnesota Vikings are sitting back, while they hold all the leverage.
