Cocky Aaron Rodgers Hasn’t Beaten Kirk Cousins in Years

The Minnesota Vikings will open their 2022 season this Sunday (3:05 PM) vs NFC North rival Green Bay and most of the country will be watching. NFL experts are split, not just about this weekend’s matchup, but on which team will hold the division crown after week 18.

What do you like better? Aaron Rodgers’ greatness paired with a talented defense, or Kevin O’Connell + Kirk Cousins and much better offensive weapons? There are arguments to be made on both sides.

Cocky Aaron Rodgers Speaks

Well, Aaron Rodgers was asked about the recent steam building behind his opponent and division rival Vikings. Unsurprisingly, he didn’t hold back in his cockiness.

“We’ve played in some tough environments. This will be another one. A good test. Just like all the other teams in the NFC North, it seems like every single year. I think their fanbase and their teams feel like ‘this is our year to win the North’. Hasn’t really been the case, in my time, for the most part.” – Aaron Rodgers

Rodgers is right, but…

Rodgers is right. Since 2008, the year he took over the starting QB job in Green Bay, the Packers have won 8 of 14 division titles. Three of those off years came from 2008-2010, Rodgers’ first three seasons on the job. Another came in 2017, the year Anthony Barr broke Rodgers’ collarbone in week 7.

But division title winner or not, Aaron Rodgers has struggled to beat the Kirk Cousins led Minnesota Vikings over the past two seasons. In fact, he and the Green Bay Packers haven’t beaten the Vikings, with Cousins under center, since September 16, 2020 (725 days), and it was in an empty US Bank Stadium.

Green Bay beat the Vikings in last season’s finale, but Kirk Cousins wasn’t active. He was in “health and safety” protocol. The last two times Cousins and Rodgers have met — 11/21/21 and 11/01/20 — Minnesota claimed victory.
