The Minnesota Twins have just six Grapefruit League games left before Spring Training comes to a close. On Thursday evening, they will play across town at Jet Blue Park against the Boston Red Sox.

The big league team is on the road because Hammond Stadium will be hosting Philadelphia Phillies prospects for the Spring Breakout Game — a March showcase for the league’s top prospects that was introduced by Major League Baseball last spring.

Walker Jenkins still sidelined; won’t play in Spring Breakout

Unfortunately, Minnesota Twins top prospect Walker Jenkins — who was originally listed as a Spring Breakout participant — won’t be in action Thursday down in Fort Myers, a source close to the situation told me today. Jenkins is currently recovering from a hamstring injury suffered back on February 28.

There is also no set timetable for Jenkins’ return to game action, and Opening Day for Triple-A St. Paul on March 27 in Indianapolis is far from a guarantee. Prior to his injury, Jenkins played in four Grapefruit League games for the MN Twins. He went 0-for-7.

This time last year, the MN Twins traveled to Dunedin for their Spring Breakout Game, but Jenkins wasn’t able to participate due to injury then, either.

Jenkins then parlayed that into just 84 regular season games down on the farm in 2025, dealing with both ankle and hamstring injuries that resulted in multiple starts and stops throughout the year.

Nonetheless, the former top five draft pick climbed his way to Triple-A St. Paul by the end of the summer, and he finished the season on a tear down the stretch, batting .296 with an .830 OPS in

In all 84 minor league games last year, Jenkins batted .286 with a .850 OPS, belting ten home runs and stealing 17 bases. After his call up to the Saints in September, Jenkins batted .296 with an .830 OPS (17 games).

Minnesota Twins still have prospect firepower

While Jenkins is the headliner of the Minnesota Twins system, they have plenty of other draws as well. Left-handed pitcher Dasan Hill is one of the most electric arms in the system. Eduardo Tait was the prospect piece included in the Jhoan Duran trade last summer. Then there’s shortstops Kaelen Culpepper and Marek Houston.

Culpepper and outfield prospect Gabriel Gonzalez spent time in big league camp this spring. Both will start their seasons with the Saints, and each should be considered as likely to see the big leagues this season.

The Spring Breakout Game will be 2025 first round pick Marek Houston’s first big stage action, and that’s something to look forward to as well. In the midst of the March Madness action, first pitch is scheduled for 12:05pm CT.
