Twins Jorge Polanco Drawing Trade Interest from Mariners, Blue Jays
Baseball free agency is upon us, and after a season that saw them win their first postseason game since 2004, the Minnesota Twins are expected to be an active team in both the free agency and trade markets, this winter, even if they have to cut payroll while doing it.
Jorge Polanco on Minnesota Twins trade block
One name already being tossed around the offseason hot stove is Twins second baseman Jorge Polanco, who hit .255 (789) OPS in 302 at-bats last season. This, after the Twins picked up team options on both Polanco and Max Kepler last week, which boosted the 30-year-old 2nd baseman’s salary from $7.5 million in 2022, to $10.5 million in 2023.

With the arrival of Edouard Julien onto the scene, over the summer, and 2022 number 1 overall pick Brooks Lee quickly climbing through the minors, Polanco is someone the Twins can afford to lose. So, with ownership wanting to cut $25-$30 million off last year’s payroll, 2nd base seems like a natural place to slash cost.
Mariners, Blue Jays both interested in Jorge Polanco
Lucky for him, there are already suitors lining up for Jorge Polanco’s future services. Per Darren Wolfson (SKOR North, KSTP) on Tuesday’s episode of “Mackey & Judd” (SKOR North), interested teams include the Seattle Mariners and Toronto Blue Jays.
“I would keep an eye, depending on what the Mariners/Blue Jays do, those would be two teams to keep an eye on, in Jorge Polanco trade talks”.
The Twins have some recent trade history with the Jays. In 2021, they sent Jose Berríos across the northern border, in exchange for Austin Martin and Simeon Woods-Richardson. Not only would the Jays want Polanco for his defense, but they would also be an adding a power bat to an already potent lineup.
The Mariners would be more of an ideal spot, as they have a few young good arms they could target, particularly someone like Logan Gilbert, though he would probably require the Twins to send more out west than Polanco, alone.
