Another New Hitting Coach for Minnesota Twins

The Minnesota Twins fired manager Rocco Baldelli at the end of a 70-92 season in 2025. Derek Shelton has been named the new manager, and changes have been made across the coaching staff.

The two most prominent positions yet to be decided included the bench and hitting coach positions. Managerial runner-up James Rowson was reported to be a desirable candidate for the former role, but he remains under contract with the New York Yankees.

For the third year in a row though, the Twins will have a new hitting coach.

Keith Beauregard named new MN Twins hitting coach

The 2024 Minnesota Twins collapsed in an epic fashion. Derek Falvey pinned the blame on David Popkins and Derek Shomon, relieving both from their duties. The former took the Toronto Blue Jays to the World Series this season, and the latter earned a job as the lead man for the Chicago White Sox in 2026.

Matt Borschulte was brought in to lead the positional group, but his return to the organization will be brief. Instead former Detroit Tigers coach Keith Beauregard will take over according to the Star Tribune’s Bobby Nightengale.

Keith Beauregard is joining manager Derek Shelton’s staff after spending the past three seasons as a hitting coach with the Detroit Tigers, two people familiar with the hire told the Minnesota Star Tribune. Beauregard departed Detroit after his contract expired this year.

Beauregard replaces Matt Borgschulte as the Twins’ lead hitting coach. Trevor Amicone and Rayden Sierra will return as the team’s assistant hitting coaches.

Beauregard becomes the Twins third hitting coach in the past three seasons. He’ll take over for Borgschulte despite both Amicone and Sierra remaining as assitants.

Minnesota’s lineup will need to put a better foot forward this season. In terms of fWAR, the offense was ranked just 19th. They were 18th by wRC+, and the lineup largely failed to hold up their end of the bargain.

It remains to be seen what impact Beauregard will have on the unit. If he can unearth a level of Kerry Carpenter or Dillon Dingler production from players in Minnesota though, the franchise will be better for it.
