Minnesota Twins Reportedly Calling Up Matt Wallner

The Minnesota Twins haven’t been lacking offense lately. They’ve scored 33 runs in their last three games alone, including nine more in a victory over the Houston Astros on Saturday afternoon. But there’s always room for more firepower in your lineup, right?

Minnesota Twins expected to call up Matt Wallner

That’s what the Twins hope. Because on Sunday, they are expected to recall outfielder Matt Wallner from Triple-A St. Paul, where he has absolutely crushed minor league pitchers to the tune of 12 home runs, 29 RBI and a 1.200 OPS since the start of June. It’s safe to say Triple-A pitchers will also be celebrating this call-up.

Matt Wallner was scratched from tonight's St. Paul Saints game. The Twins are expected to add him to their 26-man roster Sunday.

Wallner had a .342 batting average and a .417 on-base percentage in his last 29 AAA games with 12 homers and 29 RBI.

It’s not like Matt Wallner is making his Major League debut on Sunday. This is a 26-year-old Minnesota-born (Forest Lake) man who has now gotten multiple shots at the big league level. It’s up to him to now prove that he can be the power corner outfielder he profiles to be in the minors.

Wallner originally came to Minneapolis, out of spring training, but failed to produce right away, hitting a putrid .080, with a .513 OPS through 13 games (33 plate appearances). In his MLB career, Matt has a .231 batting average and .813 OPS in 295 total at bats.

The Minnesota Twins have reportedly been dangling Wallner to selling teams, prior to the July 31 trade deadline. Whether it’s his hometown Twins, or another team, he can help himself by performing well between now and then.
