Smoking Hot Twins Prospect Finally Gets The Call

The Minnesota Twins wrapped up a series victory against the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday. Manager Derek Shelton has had to mix and match a ton, of late, working with underwhelming options that include Alex Jackson, Ryan Kreidler, Orlando Arcia, and Austin Martin.
Thankfully, Kreidler — who entered the game in the 7th inning, decided to perform like an MVP, after replacing Trevoer Larnach. Not only did Kreidler go 2-for-2 with the game-winning 8th inning double, he also took a hit away the very next half-inning with an outstanding play at shortstop.

Despite Ryan Kreidler’s heroic performance Sunday, it’s no secret the Twins’ offensive depth is wearing thin, even after Royce Lewis returned from St. Paul.
Minnesota Twins finally call up Kyler Fedko
Rather than send Kreidler (who has been a good defender) or Tristan Gray (who has not) back down, the Shelton and GM Jeremy Zoll are shuffling the 40-man roster — selecting the contract of Kyler Fedko and designating Orlando Arcia for assignment.
#MNTwins select contract of Kyler Fedko. Orlando Arcia has been DFA’d.

This offseason, the entire league passed over Kyler Fedko in the Rule 5 Draft, after the Minnesota Twins left him unprotected. Through 58 games this season with the St. Paul Saints, Fedko has made those teams look rather foolish, batting .286 with an impressive .950 OPS.
While the 22% strikeout rate may be concerning, the soon-to-be big leaguer has already batted in 48 Saints runners this season and launched 15 home runs. For those who need help with math, that’s dangerously close to one RBI per game.
Oh hey look, Kyler Fedko raking again.

Over the past few weeks Twins fans have been watching the St. Paul Saints lineups for indications that shortstop prospect Kaelen Culpepper was coming to the big leagues.
Although not of the same prospect luster, Fedko has been making more noise down at Triple A and deserved this call-up a while ago. But that doesn’t matter anymore, because he’ll get his shot now.
What should Twins fans expect from Fedko?
Fedko is now 26 years old and was a 12th round pick by the MN Twins in 2021. The UConn product, and Pittsburgh native would’ve been a fun story to make his debut against the Pirates a few weeks ago. Still though, he’s not complaining in making a lifelong dream come true.
It’s been a fun couple of days for Fedko as well. Playing in Toledo with the Saints, he faced future Hall of Fame inductee Justin Verlander on a rehab assignment. The moment wasn’t too big for him as he went 2-for-2 and took him deep.
Did we forget to mention we lead ALL of baseball in home runs. @KylerFedko4 gets the future HOFer with a solo shot to left-center, his 15th of the season. Came in with a .957 OPS on the season. He's now 2-2 with a single & HR off Verlander. He now has 12 XBH last 20 (5 2B, 7 HR) pic.twitter.com/eT5CneWK58

Goodbye Orlando Arcia…
Orlando Arcia, who stood out during Spring Training and earned an early call up after a hot start in St. Paul (.318 BA, .932 OPS), was DFA’d to make room for Fedko. Arcia wound up playing in just 20 games for the MN Twins. He did get starts at first base for the first time in his career.
His average was decent (.271), but Arcia wasn’t on base or powering bat to ball enough, which showed with his .654 OPS. batted only .271 with a .654 OPS.
With Royce Lewis back up and playing on the right side of the infield, there is less need for additional first base help. However, Fedko did get some time there with Triple-A St. Paul this year, if needed in a pinch. It’s more logical that Fedko’s promotion brings Ryan Kreidler back to the infield full time.

Kreidler is the best shortstop on the Minnesota Twins roster, but has ceded reps to Tristan Gray because he can play in the outfield and Gray can’t. Fedko can play all three outfield spots, which should help balance out the positional issues on defense.
Don’t sleep on Kyler Fedko’s athleticism either. He swiped 38 bags in 46 attempts last season and started this year 9-of-13, prior to his call up. Look for Shelton to platoon him to start, but he should get plenty of opportunities to earn more regular playing time.
