Fresh off high vibes from winning five of six against the Detroit Tigers and Boston Red Sox, the Minnesota Twins tumbled back down to earth this weekend in a three-game sweep at the hands of the Cincinnati Reds.

Worst part was that the Twins had a really good chance to win both games on Saturday and Sunday, if not for back-to-back bullpen implosions. This afternoon, new manager Derek Shelton tried turning to rookie Andrew Morris.

It was only his second big league appearance. Yet, Morris found himself on the mound in the 8th inning trying to protect a 3-1 Twins lead, which he did… at least for that inning, where he struck out two of the four batters he faced..

Unfortunately, when Andrew Morris went back out for the 9th, he allowed three runs on three hits and a walk, surrendering the Twins lead. Morris threw just 27 of his 47 pitches on Sunday for strikes.

So, after another tough day in the bullpen, reinforcements were be necessary for the Minnesota Twins’ trip out to Queens for their three game series against the Mets, starting Tuesday.

Kendry Rojas joining Minnesota Twins

And according to multiple reports now, the Twins are calling up top 10 organizational prospect (MLB Pipeline), left-handed bullpen pitcher, Kendry Rojas. SKOR North’s Declan Goff and Darren Wolfson (KSTP) were first to the report.

The Minnesota Twins landed Rojas in their trade for Louie Varland, to the Toronto Blue Jays last summer. The hard-throwing lefty struggled upon his arrival at Triple-A post-trade, then began the 2026 season on the St. Paul Saints injured list, after suffering a hamstring injury at Spring Training.

He made a single appearance for Single-A Fort Myers (1.1 IP 2 H 2 R 0 ER 2 BB 2 K) before rejoining the Saints. Through two outings with st. Paul (one of which was a start) Rojas has pitched six scoreless innings, allowing just four hits at two walks, while striking out five.

What are Twins getting in Rojas?

Rojas struggled at Triple-A last year, after being acquired by the Twins, allowing 31 runs (26 earned) across 32 1/3 innings. However, the Twins have remained internally steadfast on Rojas’ upside and are ready to get a look. While they think the lefty can be a starter, his stuff looks destined for the bullpen.

This season, Rojas has averaged 97.1 mph on his fastball while throwing it 52.1% of the time. He pairs it with a slider and changeup that both sit in the upper-80’s. Realistically, Shelton trying to see if Morris could handle the leverage spot against the Reds may open a door for Rojas to assume that role either now or later on this season.

Bobby Nightengale (Star Tribune) is reporting that Rojas will actually come up and take the spot of Kody Funderburk. He is headed to the paternity list as his wife Alicia is set to deliver their first child. Prayers will be well-received by the family as she is also battling Hodgkins Lymphoma.

Connor Prielipp flying to meet MN Twins too

It’s not just Rojas that is headed to meet up with the Minnesota Twins. Although he already has a set spot on the 26-man roster (once the move is made official), Dan Hayes (The Athletic) is reporting that top-100 prospect Connor Prielipp will be making the trip too.

While Prielipp doesn’t have an extensive track record at Triple-A, he has seen more success than Rojas. Another lefty, he has allowed just four runs on 11 hits across 15 2/3 innings this season. He is also carrying a 22/8 K/BB.

Prielipp’s bugaboo has been injuries as he has only thrown 156 1/3 innings since high school seven years ago. Minnesota has remained committed to him as a starter, but he could immediately impact a bad bullpen in relief. If the MN Twins do opt to activate him for action against the Mets, he could presumably swap with Andrew Morris.

At Triple-A this season Prielipp has averaged 94.8 mph on his fastball. He pairs it with a sinker, slider, changeup, and a new curveball.

Minnesota is in New York for a three game series against a Mets team losers of 11 straight. They then head to Tampa Bay for a series with the Rays at the recently reconstructed Tropicana Field.
