Former Top Pohlad Booted from Minnesota Twins Family Business?

After Minnesota Twins president Derek Falvey traded away Carlos Correa, Willi Castro and all of the Twins’ best relievers before the 2025 MLB trade deadline, the Twins seemed destined for a full-rebuild, the size of which we haven’t seen in decades. And when Rocco Baldelli was fired, the fanbase braced for more bad news.
Then at the MLB Winter Meetings in December, Falvey slammed on the rebuild brakes. Suddenly, Pablo Lopez, Joe Ryan and Byron Buxton were no longer on the block and the Twins quickly pivoted from sellers to buyers on the offseason trade market.

Less than a month after he left the winter meetings, however, another twist. After 9 years in charge of player personnel and 3 years as the highest-ranking executive in baseball, Minnesota “mutually parted ways” with Falvey.
Yet somehow, the biggest change of the MN Twins offseason wasn’t their shift from trade market sellers to buyers, the firing of Rocco Baldelli in favor of Derek Shelton or even the exit of President Falvey.
Joe Pohlad no longer with the Minnesota Twins
Instead, it was the surprise switch atop the Twins’ organizational food chain, when Tom Pohlad took over as Executive Chair, replacing his younger brother, Joe Pohlad, who had been in charge since 2022. So just like that, Joe’s childhood dream job of running the Minnesota Twins was dead.
And it gets worse. According to former Twins pitcher turned local journalist, Charley Walters (Pioneer Press), Joe Pohlad wasn’t just pushed down the organizational totem pole, he was kicked off entirely.
Meanwhile, uncle Jim Pohlad — who ran the team from 2009-2022 — is back in the fold, as a member of the newly-formed Minnesota Twins board of directors.
Jim Pohlad, who has stepped away as controlling owner, is a member of a newly formed Twins board of directors. Joe Pohlad, who was executive chairman of the Twins and younger brother of Tom, no longer is part of the organization.

Since he took over for his younger brother Joe Pohlad, as the face of Twins ownership, Tom has been by far the most visible and talkative of any Pohlad family member, going all the way back to the late Carl Pohlad — who first purchased the organization in 1984.
Not only has Tom Pohlad vowed more transparency and better business sense under his guidance, but also unlike Joe Pohlad, he’s all but promised immediate success too. Unfortunately, he still spends (or cuts) like past Pohlads in charge… which poses a problem come March 26, when the MN Twins start their season in Baltimore.
