The rest of the 2025 Major League Baseball season is largely a proving ground for the Minnesota Twins. Rocco Baldelli needed eight new players after the front office went on a selling spree at the trade deadline.

Currently Minnesota is without multiple pitchers in the starting rotation, and a few fresh faces have rotated through the bullpen too. Assuming he makes his way to the big leagues, Genesis Cabrera can be among those that factor in.

Minnesota Twins sign Genesis Cabrera

On Tuesday the Minnesota Twins signed veteran left-handed pitcher Genesis Cabrera to a minor league contract. He was assigned to Triple-A St. Paul.

Cabrera has nearly 300 games under his belt at the major league level. This season alone he has pitched for the New York Mets, Chicago Cubs, and Pittsburgh Pirates. Across 28 innings he owns a 5.79 ERA (5.64 FIP) and 22/7 K/BB.

Last season with the Toronto Blue Jays Cabrera posted a respectable 3.59 ERA (5.13 FIP) in 62 2/3 innings. Walks and home runs have been his bugaboo, but he has shown a level of competency at times as well.

Currently the lone lefty in the Minnesota Twins bullpen is Kody Funderburk. Danny Coulombe was sent to the Texas Rangers at the trade deadline and Anthony Misiewicz is on the injured list.

Cabrera can settle in with the Saints for the next few days, and it’s possible he is added to the active roster later this month if he can pitch well. Cabrera did throw eight innings, across seven games, at Triple-A Syracuse for the Mets. He allowed seven runs with a 12/5 K/BB.

Minnesota is back in action on Wednesday night against the New York Yankees before returning to Target Field. Fan reception will be interesting after the Pohlad family announced they wouldn’t be selling the team on Wednesday morning.
