MN Twins Manager Tapped to Help with All-Star Team

The Minnesota Twins haven’t exactly made a habit of sending players to the All-Star Game in recent seasons, though Byron Buxton and Joe Ryan both earned the honor last summer.
This year, Major League Baseball will host the midsummer classic in Philadelphia. While it is obviously too early to know which players from the Twins roster will be deemed worthy, we already know Derek Shelton will be there.
Derek Shelton will represent Minnesota Twins at All-Star Game
Last season, Derek Shelton was managing the Pittsburgh Pirates…until he wasn’t. Fired 38 games in, he later joined MLB Network, but his reputation around baseball clearly did not take much of a hit. More proof of that came on Sunday, when Audra Martin reported that Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider asked Shelton to join his All-Star Game coaching staff.

“The 2026 All-Star Game is still three months away ,but the Twins already have someone headed to Philadelphia. As manager of the American League squad, John Schneider gets to add a manager from another team to his All-Star staff, and he has asked Derek Shelton to be that person… Shelton says it is a huge honor. The two were both part of the Blue Jays organization back in 2017 and have had a great relationship ever since. Shelton says for someone to think of you in that high regard professionally is such a huge honor.”

It’s not the first time Shelton has been selected to an All-Star Game staff. He was part of the group Phillies manager Rob Thompson assembled in 2023 as well. The MN Twins skipper is new to his current organization as the head honcho, but he was a familiar hire having been part of the coaching staff previously.
Although Shelton lost his job with the Pirates, he also took a terrible team from consecutive 100+-loss seasons to back-to-back 76 win campaigns that at least hinted at progress.
Through 15 games, Shelton has the Minnesota Twins off to an 8-7 start. Expectations are not especially high for this group, but it’d be difficult to have any real complaints thus far. Now, with Shelton set to help coach the American League All-Star’s, he’ll be hoping to have a few Twins players from his squad along for the ride too.
