If the end goal is making the MLB Playoffs, then the Minnesota Twins’ 2025 campaign is basically a wrap, with a month and a half worth of regular season games left to play.

After the trade deadline teardown, Minnesota’s farm system was infused with a fresh crop of new talent, reinforcements that have pushed their minor league prospect ranking at MLB Pipeline near the very top of the entire league.

Still, most of the Twins’ most talented prospects have been here much longer than the last two weeks. Their top five is still anchored by Walker Jenkins, Emmanuel Rodriguez and Luke Keaschall… who won’t be prospect eligible much longer.

What is going on with Minnesota Twins prospect, Charlee Soto?

Another homegrown minor league talent down on the MN Twins farm who has drawn plenty of excitement, since president Derek Falvey and his front office selected him No. 34 overall in the 2023 MLB Draft, is 19-year-old right-handed starting pitcher, Charlee Soto.

Soto — who is NOT related to Mets superstar Juan Soto — was born in Philadelphia and played high school baseball in Florida. Currently ranked as the No. 17 prospect in Minnesota’s system, Soto made his High-A pitching debut this season at Cedar Rapids.

After 74 disappointing innings at Low-A Fort Myers in 2024, the Twins took a leap of faith by promoting Soto and, initially, he paid them off with three starts in April where he produced 15 strikeouts (4 BB, 0 HR), a 1.38 ERA and 1.000 WHIP in 13 innings pitched.

Unfortunately Soto hasn’t pitched since his last start on April 17, after which he landed on the injured list with a right tricep strain. He was then transferred to the 60-day injured list on June 17. And now, according to Cedar Rapids sportswriter, Jeff Johnson, Soto’s season is officially over.

Given his youth, there are a wide range of opinions on Soto. ESPN baseball insider Kiley McDaniel just completed a recent re-rank of the top 10 prospects for each franchise. He is among the highest on Soto, ranked him No. 5 in the Minnesota Twins organization.

When right, Soto throws a triple-digit fastball and pairs the offering with multiple solid off-speed pitches. He’s still a raw talent that will need to be developed. More importantly he needs to stay healthy and show a level of durability that is now in question.

2026 could be a big season for Soto if he can return to the mound healthy in Spring Training. Minnesota has plenty of future holes in their starting rotation and the more potential options that present themselves the better.
