The Minnesota Twins entered Saturday as winners in six of their last nine games, signaling a possible turnaround after June finished as one of the worst months in franchise history.

Joe Ryan and the Twins bullpen outdueled Pittsburgh Pirates pitchers and their phenom youngster, Paul Skenes, 2-1 on Friday night, Minnesota’s bats were primed for a coming out party today, on a beautiful afternoon for baseball at Target Field.

And what a celebration it was. The MN Twins jumped on Pirates pitchers early and often Saturday, putting up a total of 12 runs on 14 hits (4 HR) and 5 walks. But the life of today’s weekend party was Byron Buxton.

Minnesota Twins All-Star Byron Buxton hits for cycle

Not only did the 31-year-old All-Star go 5-for-5, but he hit for the first cycle in Target Field history, and just the 12th Twins cycle ever, capping it off with a Home Run Derby style bomb in the 7th inning that officially put him in the record books.

Byron Buxton’s final statline Saturday included 5 hits, 2 RBI and 3 runs — (2) singles, (1) double, (1) triple, (1) home run. He now holds the third highest OPS (.921) in Major League Baseball, behind only Cal Rawley and Aaron Judge.

If there is one thing we have learned from the first half of the 2025 MLB season, it’s that a healthy Byron Buxton is one of the top ten players in all of baseball. All this just two days removed from Buck taking a 95 MPH fastball off the hand.

And to make today’s performance even better, today was Buxton bobblehead day for the first 10,000 fans at Target Field. I don’t think any of the collectors or fans who waited in line pregame have any complaints about how the day unfolded.
