Timberwolves Trying to Flip KAT Trade for New Co-Star

The NBA Draft is less than a week away, and while all has been mostly quiet around the NBA, the action is expected to pick up as we tick closer to June 23. When chatter picks back up, the Minnesota Timberwolves are expected to be directly involved.
If you are wondering who is on the Wolves trade block, the answer is just about everybody not named Anthony Edwards. Of course, that comes with caveats.
If president of basketball operations Tim Connelly is going to entertain a trade involving Jaden McDaniels, Naz Reid or even Rudy Gobert, the return will have to blow him away.
Minnesota Timberwolves trying to offload Randle, DiVincenzo in trade
Then, there is Julius Randle, who skipped out on his exit press conference with reporters after doing his exit interview with Chris Finch and higher ups in the organization.
According to Brett Siegel (Clutch Points), Minnesota has been shopping around Randle, along with Donte DiVincenzo’s expiring contract and a first round pick, for another star to pair next to Anthony Edwards.
Behind the Nuggets with the 28th overall pick is the Minnesota Timberwolves, who have been gauging the market to see what Donte DiVincenzo’s expiring $12.5 million contract and this selection at the end of the first round could get them. Minnesota is said to be in the market for a ball-handling guard who can play on or off the ball alongside Anthony Edwards in the draft.

If the Minnesota Timberwolves were to move DiVincenzo (who will not be available for most of next season due to an achilles tear) and Randle in any trade, they’d be dealing over 33 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists per game from their 2025 regular season lineup.
The real question is whether or not this is a package that can get requisite talent in return, for the Wolves to be a legitimate NBA Finals contender.
That’s kind of sad… being it’s the exact same package (Randle + DiVincenzo + 1st Rd pick) that came from New York, in exchange for Karl-Anthony Towns… who just helped the Knicks win it all.
Can Wolves get what they want with Randle + DiVincenzo package?
Are Randle + a hurt DiVincenzo convince the Dallas Mavericks to trade Kyrie Irving, Kawhi Leonard or Giannis? Probably not, especially since the Mavs are playing hardball with Kyrie. It sounds like it would get them back something of, however.
Many rival scouts have pointed to Julius Randle being packaged with DiVincenzo and the 28th pick for an established All-Star-like talent to pair with Edwards, but the Wolves’ primary targets like Giannis, Kawhi Leonard, and Kyrie Irving don’t appear to be plausible options at the moment, seeing as the Wolves aren’t in the Antetokounmpo sweepstakes anymore, and both Leonard and Irving aren’t on the trade block.

This is the best-case trade package for the Timberwolves. DiVincenzo isn’t available to play and everyone knows they are trying to offload Randle.
If they can get what they want in return for those two and a first rounder, without having to touch Naz Reid, Rudy Gobert or a variety of other players Connelly values more… it’d be a huge win.
Something big is coming for the Minnesota Timberwolves…
One thing is for sure though, writes Siegel, something big is coming out of Minnesota. It’s just a matter of “what” and “when”.
Some type of big change is coming in Minnesota this offseason, one that won’t involve Edwards or rising forward Jaden McDaniels.
