Report: Timberwolves Ramping Up Pursuit of LeBron James

The Minnesota Timberwolves are an incomplete team right now, and unless some sort of trade or miracle free agency opportunity presents itself, it’s difficult to see how they fill the monster hole in their roster at power forward.
Even if they fill the starting four role somehow, there will still be a ton of questions surrounding how exactly LaMelo Ball will work next to Anthony Edwards and a MN Timberwolves team that is usually focused on winning, not off-court distractions.
It’s easier to see the LaMelo experiment working if the Wolves win. But if they cannot fill the void in their frontcourt, their likelihood of success drops astronomically. Of course, if Minnesota can reel in LeBron James, then none of the above matters.
Timberwolves’ pursuit of LeBron James getting serious
And that is exactly what president of basketball operations Tim Connelly, along with owners Alex Rodriguez and Marc Lore, are trying to do. LeBron so hard. In fact, after James’ agent Rich Paul talked about the Wolves chances at reeling in LeBron, the organization feels even more confident they can get a deal done.
In fact, according to Jon Krawczynski (The Athletic), the MN Timberwolves feel emboldened enough that they have actually “ramped up” their efforts to land the 4x NBA Champ and 4x league MVP.
The Minnesota Timberwolves have ramped up their push for LeBron James, with full belief that they are very much in the hunt to land one of the greatest players in NBA history, league sources told The Athletic.
The sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity to describe ongoing deliberations, said the Timberwolves have been in contact with James’ representatives with a bold pitch: team up with Anthony Edwards, LaMelo Ball, Jaden McDaniels and Rudy Gobert to go after the kind of championship that could end any discussion about who is the greatest player of all time.
Jon Krawczynski – The Athletic
Not only is his positional fit as a power forward perfect, but the addition of James would add the exact type of championship-proven veteran talent that the Minnesota Timberwolves need to be considered a legitimate NBA Finals contender in 2026-27.
Minnesota Timberwolves making quite the pitch to LeBron
Without him, in an uber-competitive West, the Wolves might have a hard time staying out of the play-in tournament. And that is where Minnesota’s big pitch comes in. Per Jon K., Timberwolves brass is selling LeBron and Rich Paul, not just on James being a good fit for them, but that the Wolves are the perfect fit for him.
The Wolves think if James picks them over all the other suitors — cold weather and lack of spending power be damned — it would be the biggest possible statement he could make in the long-running greatest player of all time debate between him and Michael Jordan.
Jon Krawczynski – The Athletic
Jon is right, and I’m not sure how any other team would be able to hold water in this argument. There’s no doubt that winning his fifth championship in Minnesota would do more for LeBron James’ legacy than anywhere else he would elect to play.

According to reports, the other most likely options are Miami, Cleveland, Denver, Philly and the Warriors, though Golden State seems to be fading.

Until Shams reports that LeBron James is actually signing with the MN Timberwolves, it’ll be difficult for anyone around basketball to see him choosing the Wolves over all 29 other teams.
