Anthony Edwards Plans to Return if MN Timberwolves Can Advance…

As was the case last postseason, the Minnesota Timberwolves entered their first-round playoff series against the Denver Nuggets as massive underdogs that neither Vegas nor league “experts” gave much of a chance to advance.
However, after falling behind 1-0 to start the series, we’ve seen a different MN Timberwolves team the last three games, none of which was more impressive than their victory in Game 4, which gave the Wolves a 3-1 series lead and an opportunity to eliminate the Nuggets tonight.

Of course, there is a major problem with that plan. If they are going to advance beyond Denver, they must win ONE game without Anthony Edwards and Donte DiVincenzo in the lineup, after leg injuries in Game 4 knocked them both out for the rest of round 1.
DiVincenzo is out for the rest of the playoffs, with a torn achilles tendon. The initial outlook was a bit better for Anthony Edwards. Nonetheless, his hyperextended knee will keep him out weeks, not days, putting not just this series, but the rest of Minnesota’s potential playoff run in jeopardy of happening without Ant-Man.
Minnesota Timberwolves head coach optimistic on Anthony Edwards
With that being said, there are some optimistic ideas floating around on Monday, when it comes to Edwards’ knee. Earlier in the day, Chris Finch reminded KFAN’s Paul Allen that Ant is a fast-healer.
In fact, the Wolves head coach went as far as to say that, should the MN Timberwolves advance to the second round of the playoffs, their next opponent could very well see Ant back on the floor.
Then this afternoon, Jon Krawczynski (The Athletic) took Finchy’s optimism surrounding Minnesota’s superstar a step further, predicting that Anthony Edwards’ eventual return will come next round, if the Wolves can advance and then win a couple games in round two.
“Right now, we’re just relieved because the end of the incident looked pretty nasty, and he’s he’s such an incredible athlete like that, you know he’s able to survive something like that. If that were to happen to you or I, you know, are leg would be in pieces down there.
I think, right now, we’re more relieved. We obviously feel sorry for him, but you know we’re gonna have to try to regroup again. And we do know that, if we can keep extending this playoff [run], that he is going to come back, and he generally comes back ahead of timeline.
He just puts the work in. He’s super dedicated there, and you know he’s in really good spirits, all things considered, and so that’s good.”

Everything I'm told, backed by what Chris Finch said to @PAOnTheMic this morning, is that Anthony Edwards fully intends to return to the playoffs at some point, if the Wolves can stay in the fight. If they advance, my gut says their next opponent will see him at some point.

More Wolves News: Timberwolves Have Stolen Nuggets’ Soul
IF the Minnesota Timberwolves can indeed finish off the Nuggets, without Ant and DiVo, their most likely next opponent is the San Antonio Spurs, and young superstar, Victor Wembanyama — who’s been dealing with his own injury issues, and subsequent fallout.
Until Anthony Edwards is able to return, however, the MN Timberwolves’ playoff fate is in the hands of those who normally compliment the team’s superstar. Finchy needs his best from Ayo Dosunmu again, along with Jaden McDaniels and Rudy Gobert.
It’d be really nice if Naz Reid would show up in Game 5 on Monday too… but that might be asking too much, given what we have seen from him so far this postseason (9.5 points, 28.6 3PT%).
