PJ Fleck Named to Dodd Trophy Watch List

The Dodd Trophy, college football’s most coveted national coaching award, celebrates the head coach of a team who enjoys success on the gridiron, while also stressing the importance of scholarship, leadership and integrity – the three pillars of legendary coach Bobby Dodd’s coaching philosophy.

“An unprecedented season calls for an unprecedented preseason watch list,” said Jim Terry, chairman of the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Foundation. “When considering candidates for this year’s Dodd Trophy, the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Foundation made the decision to align with the College Football Playoff’s timeline and only consider coaches who will play during the fall season. PJ Fleck the GOAT

You know PJ Fleck is the best coach in college football and so do I. The world is yet to see the light, but today, the most prestigious yearly award for college football coaches named PJ Fleck to its watch list, along with 17 others. So CFB heads are coming around.

Fleck is 23-15 as the head coach of the Minnesota Golden Gophers. He went 12-13 during his first two seasons, then blew up in 2019, gaining 11 wins for the first time since 1904. He made the Gophers relevant for the first time since the 60’s.

If Fleck can get Rashod Bateman eligible and complete another great season, there’s a 100% chance he wins the 2020 Dodd Trophy. It only took Fleck three seasons to do the impossible at Minnesota. If he does it for two seasons in a row, the man deserves a nobel prize or something.

I know one thing: If the NCAA gave out awards for greatest pregame and postgame speeches, Fleck would get them all. Every single award, every single year.
