Gophers DC Joe Rossi is Healthy and Back on Campus to Coach vs Iowa
The Minnesota Gophers won their first game of 2020 without their defensive coordinator, Joe Rossi, who tested positive for COVID-19 earlier last week. Until Wednesday, we didn’t know if Rossi would be in the booth to coach the Gopher defense Friday vs Iowa.
But today, we got our answer when he spoke with media via zoom.

Rossi was still heavily involved in last week’s game plan vs Illinois but wasn’t allowed to have any communication with the team during the game. “I was a fan”, Rossi said via Zoom on Wednesday afternoon.
In his absence, Co-Defensive Coordinator Joe Harasymiak called plays for the Gopher defense and it was by-far their best game of 2020, holding the Illini to just 14 points and 287 total yards on the day.
Some fans didn’t want Rossi back… but PJ Fleck won’t have any of that slander. I am very intrigued to see whether or not the defense can continue to improve vs Iowa. If so, the conversation will end. If not, how loud will the calls for a change get?
