The Minnesota Gophers enjoyed a successful 2024 season largely on the back of an offensive resurgence. P.J. Fleck has traditionally operated with the running game as a focal point, or the only avenue to production. Max Brosmer changed that.

After spending multiple years with New Hampshire, Brosmer transferred to the Gophers. The Big Ten prodived a significant jump in competition, but the quarterback found success. He could parlay that into NFL opportunity as well.

Jordan Reid continues pumping up Minnesota Gophers Max Brosmer

This isn’t the first time NFL Analyst Jordan Reid has propped up Minnesota Gophers quarterback Max Brosmer. He joined Seattle’s Bump & Stacy show this week to highlight how realistic it is that P.J. Fleck’s quarterback could be a draft commodity.

“Minnesota got him out of the portal, and he was great this past season. Over 2,500 passing yards, 18 touchdowns, and only six interceptions. You look at the tape and he isn’t overly gifted from a physical standpoint. He doesn’t have a super strong arm, but he’s one of those guys that plays on time. He’s very decisive, he knows where to go with the football. His drops always marry up and match with the routes that they’re trying to run. He’s extremely tough.

You look at those late round guys that have went on to succeed. He has a lot of those traits that align with them. So Max Brosmer, Minnesota is definitely one name that’s not getting a lot of buzz right now but he’s going to get a lot more notoriety as we go through the process.”

It’s hard to take anything away from what Brosmer did for the Gophers this season. The North Carolina game was a tough start to his FBS career, but he grew every game from then on. When the dust settled, it’s hard to argue against him being one of the best quarterbacks to ever play for the program.

Brosmer has ideal size at 6’2″ and his 225 pound frame should hold up at the next level. He’s certainly not going to be drafted as someone’s starter, but it’s clear he can adapt to better competition. If a team is looking for a project with upside, he might be their guy.

Minnesota must move on without Brosmer in 2025. P.J. Fleck will have 2,828 passing yards to make up, and it remains imperative that the offense has a similar look to the production that was put forth this season.

As is the case with any portal player, Brosmer needed a new opportunity and Minnesota provided it. The Gophers needed him though too, and now they can watch him parlay the success at the next level.
