Gopher Football Loses Assistant Coach, Maurice Linguist, to Texas A&M
With members of the highly anticipated Gophers’ Football 2018 class arriving in Minnesota earlier this month, a vital part of making all of that recruiting magic happen will be departing from the Land of 10K Lakes.

It was announced on Monday evening that the U’s recently promoted, assistant football coach, Maurice Linguist, is leaving the Maroon and Gold to join Jimbo Fisher’s Texas A&M staff. Effective immediately, the 33 year-old is now Aggies’ DB coach.
No!! Was it something I said? I can change, Coach Mo.
If you’re panicking like me, R-E-L-A-X. Get a hold of yourself, dammit. Just like with Vikings’ OC, Pat Shurmur’s soon to be departure, Minnesota will still have their golden goose. By all accounts, in Mike Zimmer fashion, P.J. Fleck isn’t going anywhere………. for now.
With that said, replacing Linguist won’t be easy. After joining the Gophers last January as the DB coach, he helped Minnesota’s inexperienced secondary finish 11th in the nation in passing yards allowed per game. The 174.5 YPG average was one of the few ON THE FIELD positives for The U of M pigskin program.
However, there were a hell of a lot OFF THE FIELD positives to get excited about. At the top of that list is recruiting. With the mastermind that is P.J. Fleck by his side, Linquist was vital in helping the Maroon and Gold lock up the 2018 class of commitments. A class that is the highest rated in Gophers’ history (internet era).
In particular, the Baylor alum had his hands all over the previously tense Rashod Bateman scenario. Ultimately, the 4-Star WR chose MN over his home state Georgia Bulldogs, among others.
Let’s hope that Bateman isn’t to bummed out over Coach Mo’s departure. If he is, someone with a fat wallet needs to open a Zaxby’s near campus. ASAP. I’m just echoing Coach Fleck’s sentiment, as he already called for one to be built. The GA product loves the Southern-based, fast food chain.
From my point of view, this is painful, but it’s no hard feelings to Coach Mo. With the upmost confidence, I can say that he left our football program in better shape than he found it. If the man wants to go down to A&M and get himself a pair of custom boots, like Jimbo, that’s fine.

You’re in SEC country, gentlemen. Nick Saban and Kirby Smart are going to piss in your boots.
That’s gross. Unless you’re of R. Kelly’s mindset, the oar is a MUCH better option.
