For the second time in consecutive days the Minnesota Twins walked off the Tampa Bay Rays to win a one-run game. The win represented their first series win in a month, and it was a milestone victory for the skipper. Having it happen against good friend Kevin Cash only added to the fun.

With 500 victories from the dugout Rocco Baldelli became just the fourth manager in Minnesota Twins history to reach that mark. Already extended through the 2026 season, the hope is that the 12th manager in Twins history can push the tally even higher.

500 wins for Minnesota Twins Rocco Baldelli

The was a time Rocco Baldelli was on the hot seat for the Minnesota Twins. Despite the 43-46 record, Baldelli is pushing through a multitude of pitching injuries to try and keep his team afloat. The latest victory was a monumental one.

At this point across the baseball landscape managers are largely interchangeable. There isn’t anyone that “manages through computers” or only leans into analytics. There are varying degrees to which data comes from the front office, but ever skipper incorporates some of those principles into their style.

Management success is largely reflective of an ability to communicate. How well a manager can get the buy-in and understanding of their team drives results. It’s why the Minnesota Twins have employed Baldelli for seven seasons, and why Paul Molitor was cast aside after just four.

Rocco Baldelli500-459.5212019-Present

With his 500th win Baldelli joins Tom Kelly, Ron Gardenhire, and Sam Mele as Minnesota Twins managers to surpass the milestone. He can chase down Mele’s tally (522) yet this season.

Baldelli climbing the MN Twins ranks

Mele was the first manager in Minnesota Twins history. His .546 winning percentage is only topped by Billy Martin, who went 97-65 during the 1969 season. Baldelli has a ways to go in order to close that gap, but has bested both beloved fixtures Tom Kelly and Ron Gardenhire.

Obviously Baldelli has yet to push the Twins to a World Series Championship. He did lead the deepest playoff run in decades during the 2023 season. His 101-win Bomba Squad in 2019 was the second-winningest team in franchise history behind only Mele’s 102-win squad in 1965.

Baldelli will work to get the Minnesota Twins back to the postseason as a wild card team in 2025. The uphill battle will be tough however, and could leave him in an interesting spot with potentially new owners for 2026.

The Minnesota Timberwolves won again on Sunday night. Riding high on an eight-game winning streak, the Wolves are the hottest team in basketball. Since coming back from his injury, Julius Randle has been a completely different player.

His trade buddy Donte DiVincenzo has emerged as the guy Tim Connelly originally traded for, too. But as always, the Minnesota Timberwolves go as Anthony Edwards goes, which has yet again been proven during this recent hot stretch.

Anthony Edwards wins Western Conference Player of the Week

Over the past week, during wins over Denver, Orlando, and Utah, the Wolves’ 23-year-old superstar took his game to an even higher level, averaging 32.7 points per game, up from his 27.4 PPG average on the season. On Monday, the NBA named Edwards the league’s Western Conference Player of the Week for his efforts.

Ant’s was better from inside the three point line, during his player of the week run, shooting 51.5% from the field overall vs his 45% season average. Edwards shot just 38.2% from the three point line last week, though, down from his season average of 40.5%.

Take that however you want, but head coach Chris Finch doesn’t seem concerned because the Wolves offense has been relying on Ant even more recently, with his attempts up from 20 shots per game to 22.

Anthony Edwards last won Player of the Week honors on November 13, 2023. Only five players in franchise history have won the award multiple times. Edwards joins Kevin Love, Karl-Anthony Towns, Al Jefferson, and Kevin Garnett in that regard.

The MN Timberwolves own a 40-29 record while sitting just 2.5 games outside of the second seed in the Western Conference. With 13 games remaining, Chris Finch’s team will be looking to improve upon their current play-in tournament destination.

This season Edwards has averaged a career-best 27.4 points per game. He is shooting 44.5% from the field and 40.5% from deep. His 10.1 three-point attempts per game are easily a career high, and his ability to stretch the floor has only added to his game.

Edwards remains a prolific dunker, and his slam against the Utah Jazz put an exclamation point on his week. Naz Reid found Edwards on the perimeter and dished the rock for the superstar to throw it down.

The Timberwolves are back in action on Monday night against the Indiana Pacers. Rick Carlisle’s squad is 5th in the Eastern Conference and owns a 37-29 record this season, making this one of the more difficult matchups of the Wolves recent stretch of wins.

This is an important stretch for the Minnesota Timberwolves. They are currently in the midst of a five-game homestand before heading out on the road against Indiana. Five of their final seven games happen away from the Target Center, and the more they handle business now the better.

Anthony Edwards will always remain a pivotal part of what Chris Finch attempts to do from a coaching standpoint. He shouldn’t need to win Player of the Week honors on a continuous basis, but he will always stir Minnesota’s drink.

If the Timberwolves want to improve upon their defeat in the Western Conference Finals last season, it will be because Edwards elevates himself and everyone else around him.

The Minnesota Timberwolves drafted Anthony Edwards in 2020 with the hope that he would turn into a superstar. Luckily for the Timberwolves, it happened. Ant has also become one of the most marketable players in sports.

One of the biggest success stories surrounding Edwards, aside from his play on the court, has been his marriage with Adidas. The AE 1 silhouette quickly became one of the best sneakers to hit the market in recent memory. And, with the success that it had, Adidas paid him a lucrative deal to be the face of Adidas Basketball.

The success of the shoe is great news, but it brings the other side of the sword along with it. The good part? The buzz is real, and the foundation is set. The bad news? Expectations for the follow-up are now through the roof, and Adidas has to keep the momentum alive.

Minnesota Timberwolves Anthony Edwards new kicks are sus

The first Anthony Edwards signature sneaker was dubbed “With Love” and showed up in December 2023. The Minnesota Timberwolves superstar has since showcased multiple colorways of the mid-cut silhouette, as well as unveiling a low-top sneaker. The success of the shoe has understandably delayed the next iteration, but a recent leak gives us a look a the next edition.

Obviously the image is a tease and doesn’t showcase the entire product. It is substantially better than the previous leaks that have come out, however, but it’s also not far off from previously underwhelming examples.

Adidas has consistently been looking for their next big thing. Anthony Edwards has proven to be it, and the marketing campaign surrounding the Minnesota Timberwolves superstar has been nothing short of exceptional. That said, they can’t afford to follow up a generational sneaker with a flop.

This season Edwards has taken his game to a new level, as well. After the Timberwolves traded Karl-Anthony Towns to the New York Knicks, there was no doubt who’s team it was. Edwards has responded by contributing a career-high 27.5 points per game.

With Towns gone, Edwards has taken aim from beyond the arc. His 40.6% three point rate is a career-best, and he is averaging a career-high 10.2 three-point field goals per game.

There will likely never be a point in which Anthony Edwards is not marketable. That said, Adidas has to continue not to flop on his signature offerings and hope they are as well-received as the first iteration was.

It remains to be seen how this new shoe will be judged by the fans. The release date is vague as later in 2025. Who lines up to snag them will ultimately decide the fate of Adidas’ latest offering.

The Minnesota Timberwolves are back in action on Sunday night vs the Phoenix Suns. Anthony Edwards will be back off of his one-game suspension, as the Wolves look to kill their current three-game losing streak. It’s the Wolves’ third game in four nights, but it sounds like they’ll have more than one fresh body available.

Minnesota Timberwolves expecting Julius Randle back vs Phoenix Suns

According to NBA insider Chris Haynes, Julius Randle is expected to join Edwards tonight, in what would be his first game since January 30. In 48 games played this season, the 30-year-old former Kentucky Wildcat is averaging 18.9 points, 7.2 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game.

President of basketball operations Tim Connelly traded Karl-Anthony Towns to the New York Knicks for Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo, just before the start of the regular season. Since, the Minnesota Timberwolves have not been the same team.

But one thing we’ve learned since Randle suffered his injury back on January 30, during a win vs the Utah Jazz, is that the Wolves are definitely better with their new big man available, than without. From a numbers standpoint, Julius Randle’s numbers are very similar, even though his minutes are a bit down.

In the 14 games played since Julius left the rotation, the MN Timberwolves are a paltry 6-8. They’ve fallen all the way to 9th place in the Western Conference. Prior to Randle’s injury, the Timberwolves were 27-21 and 6th in the West.

It has been trending this way for some time, but Anthony Edwards made quick work of the final two technical fouls he needed (16), in order to be suspended by the NBA for total techs on the season, during a Minnesota Timberwolves loss vs the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday night.

Minnesota Timberwolves without suspended Anthony Edwards

It only took three quarters last night for Edwards to earn his 15th and 16th technical fouls, in played 58 games played. Sixteen technical fouls leads the NBA, meaning he is obviously the first player in the league in 2024-25 to be suspended for exceeding the maximum allowed number of techs. The NBA officially handed down Ant’s discipline on Friday.

Most of the time, it’s great to see that Edwards’ personality manifests itself in so many raw and comical ways. That tends to generate a significant amount of buzz for him. It has helped push him towards the top of league popularity. The problem is that he also has lacked the maturity on the court.

Each of the past two seasons, Edwards has played 79 of 82 regular season games for Minnesota. He’d have to remain on the court for all of the Wolves’ final 21 games, in order to reach that mark again this season. It’s worth noting that Ant has been nursing a calf injury too.

What happened against the Lakers?

Early on in the game Anthony Edwards went after former Minnesota Timberwolves teammate Jarred Vanderbilt. A shove of the big man, earned him his first technical of the evening. Later in the game he received his second infraction and was tossed from the game.

The MN Timberwolves are four games above .500 and sit at 32-28 on the season. They are on the road Friday against the Utah Jazz and will be without Anthony Edwards. Due to injuries for Julius Randle and Rudy Gobert as well, the lineup will be lacking a significant amount of star power.

This season the Timberwolves have been entirely Edwards’ team. From the moment that Karl-Anthony Towns was traded to New York, there was zero question as to who the leader was going to be. He has responded with a career-high 27.3 points per game as well as a 40.5% three point percentage. On a nightly basis the offense goes through him and he has elevated his game.

If the Minnesota Timberwolves are going to make noise in the playoffs it will be because Anthony Edwards contributes on the court and remains locked in. Chris Finch needs to see that from his star, and it has to happen quickly.

Fresh off a crazy comeback win over the Thunder, the Minnesota Timberwolves’ season may be taking a turn for the better. They’ve recently gotten great run out of some of their young players, showing us that they have an exciting future to look forward to around star Anthony Edwards.

In particular, Rob Dillingham, Terrence Shannon Jr., and Jaylen Clark have all provided sparks in the wake of many injuries to the starting lineup. As a result, the Timberwolves gave some good news to one of those main young guys. They also signed a new interesting guard to a two-way contract.

Minnesota Timberwolves convert Jaylen Clark to NBA contract

On Wednesday, Clark was rewarded for his recent solid play. The Wolves converted his two-way contract into a two-year, fully guaranteed NBA contract. He’s with the Wolves while he’s under contract, meaning he no longer will be back and forth with the G-league squad. It’s a minimum deal for the rest of this season and next season, and Clark will still be a restricted free agent after next year.

The move comes after a stretch of great games from Clark since entering the rotation on Jan. 29. He’s averaging 6.5 points and 1.9 rebounds while shooting nearly 45% from three in 13 games. He’s started three of the Wolves’ last four games, all of which came against the first-place Thunder.

Clark was entered into the rotation thanks to injuries to the Minnesota Timberwolves’ lineup. Rudy Gobert, Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo have all missed multiple games, and head coach Chris Finch has been moving players around to accommodate for that. That includes giving more minutes to Clark, a second-round pick out of UCLA in 2023.

Related: Report: Timberwolves Big Man Seeking New Contract This Offseason

As a junior for the Bruins, Clark averaged 13 points, six rebounds and a Pac-12 leading 2.6 steals a game. The Wolves drafted him for his defense, and that’s what he’s excelled at since joining. As the contesting defender this season, Clark is holding opponents to 41% shooting. He’s been the Wolves’ primary defender against MVP candidate Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, helping Minnesota split the season series with one of the Finals favorites.

Wolves sign Bones Hyland to two-way contract

In a corresponding move, the Minnesota Timberwolves signed guard Bones Hyland to a two-way deal in Clark’s former spot. Hyland was the 26th overall pick by the Nuggets in 2021, when Wolves President of Basketball Operations Tim Connelly was still in Denver. He was subsequently traded to the Clippers after Connelly left in 2022, where he’s spent the last two seasons.

Hyland was sent to the Atlanta Hawks at the trade deadline this season, but was waived after just two days with the team. He’s averaging 7.2 points on a career-high 38% 3-point shooting this year in 11 minutes per game. He’s also averaging nearly a steal per game in those 11 minutes, ranking him top five in steals per 36 minutes.

Related: Report: Kevin Garnett to Join Timberwolves Immediately Upon Ownership Change

He’s not putting up the best stats of his career, but Hyland provides injury insurance for the Wolves down the final stretch of the season. He’s a favorite of Connelly’s and the Wolves got him for basically nothing. At his peak, Hyland was averaging 12.1 points per game. With his newfound shooting touch, Minnesota may have found a diamond in the rough.

The Minnesota Timberwolves have been back in action for a few days, since the NBA All-Star Break last weekend. If you were hoping they’d get healthier over the break, you’ve been disappointed the first two games back, and that will only continue tonight vs the Thunder.

On Sunday night, in the first of back-to-back games vs the Oklahoma City Thunder, they were without Julius Randle, Rudy Gobert and Donte DiVincenzo. Then, redshirt rookie guard Jaylen Clark went up for a layup can came down in a way that launched the back of his head into the wood floor at Target Center.

Jaylen Clark avoids disaster for Minnesota Timberwolves

It’s a replay that gives you a headache just to watch. Thankfully, though, the Minnesota Timberwolves injury report listed him as questionable, and not with a concussion, but a sore neck instead. A tweet shortly after from Darren “Doogie” Wolfson (KSTP) revealed that concussion tests came back negative.

Related: Anthony Edwards Flirting with Suspension

It took awhile for Clark to get real run with Minnesota this season, but he has now played in 16 games with two starts. He is averaging just 5.1 points per game, but has been a bright spot of late. His 14 points against Oklahoma City helped the Timberwolves stay in contention.

MN Timberwolves rotation could get help soon

Although Julius Randle, Donte DiVincenzo, and Rudy Gobert all remain out for the immediate future, their return is expected soon. There is some concern surrounding Gobert’s back injury, but for the other two, it’s more about conditioning, at this point in their rehab.

Gobert has missed all three games since the All-Star Break. With his fourth inactive game coming on Monday, he will have been out for all three recent meetings between the Minnesota Timberwolves and Oklahoma City Thunder.

Randle, who is in his first season with the Wolves, has been out since January 30th. He is averaging 18.9 points per game, which is the lowest mark of his career dating back to 2017-18 with the Los Angeles Lakers. Not the greatest fit for Minnesota, Randle is a trade candidate if he can get his groin healthy.

The most productive part of Minnesota’s Karl-Anthony Towns trade to the Knicks has been Donte DiVincenzo. His toe injury has kept him off the court since January 15th, and it has been that absence where players like Clark and Rob Dillingham have filled in.

Related: Report: Kevin Garnett to Join Timberwolves Immediately Upon Ownership Change

Through 40 games DiVincenzo is averaging 11 points per game. He has made eight starts but has yet to find his three-point stroke. After shooting 40.1% for New York last season, he has converted on just 36.9% of his attempts this year.

The Minnesota Timberwolves are entering the stretch run with 24 games remaining. If Chris Finch can get a healthy rotation back, then the Wolves can improve of their current playoff positioning and hope to avoid the Play-In Tournament.

The Minnesota Timberwolves are back in action Monday night, now a full week after the NBA All-Star break. This became Anthony Edwards’ team, even before Karl-Anthony Towns left. But the Wolves have struggled to find their identity since he was traded for Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo.

While Edwards continues to elevate and develop his game in a lot of meaningful and positive ways, Ant is still his own worst enemy during games far too often, especially when it comes to riding referees. Speaking of KAT, this may be a learned behavior via the Big Meow.

Every professional athlete has a problem with those who officiate and enforce the rules of their respective sports. But the great ones rarely let it get them off their game. For Anthony Edwards, and previously Karl-Anthony Towns, that’s exactly what happens far too often.

Minnesota Timberwolves Anthony Edwards stacking technical fouls

After yet another technical foul on Sunday, his 14th of the season, Anthony Edwards only needs two more before he suspended for reaching the maximum amount of techs for one player in a season (15). The Minnesota Timberwolves still have 24 games to go.

For his 14th technical foul, Edwards gets to pay a $4,000 fine. If he lands a 16th technical, he’ll serve a one-game suspension and will not be given a game check. With a $42,176,400 salary this season, that missed game check equates to $514,346.34.

Related: Report: Kevin Garnett to Join Timberwolves Immediately Upon Ownership Change

After 16, ever two technical fouls after that will result in an additional $5,000 fine, and another one-game suspension. No NBA player has been called for more technical fouls this season than Anthony Edwards. His 14 is even more than notorious cheap shot artist Draymond Green (11) and equally notorious Dillon Brooks (11).

At the rate he is going (a technical every 4.14 games), Edwards is still projected for at least a few more techs before the regular season is over. We’ll see if he can hold himself back… Already without guard Donte DiVincenzo, the Timberwolves can’t afford to lose more of their starting backcourt.

Maturity must win out for MN Timberwolves’ Edwards

Anthony Edwards is 23 years old and having a strong season, averaging a career-high 27.7 points on 43.8% shooting. His 10.3 three-point attempts per game are easily a new career high, and he is hitting them at a career-best 40.9% clip.

Related: Timberwolves Await Return of Julius Randle, Rudy Gobert Injury Concerning…

But Ant wants the refs to treat him like the superstar he is. That said, arguing with officials hasn’t gone all that well for him. Head coach Chris Finch needs his superstar on the floor. The more that Edwards can stay off the officials, at this point in his career, the more calls he will probably get.

The Minnesota Timberwolves will return to the basketball court on Sunday against the Oklahoma City Thunder, in a game they enter as +7.5 point underdogs. While the Thunder sit atop the Western Conference at 45-10, much of this weekend’s touchdown spread is due to the Wolves who will not be taking the floor on Sunday.

On Saturday, it was announced that Julius Randle (right groin strain), Donte DiVincenzo (left great toe sprain) and Rudy Gobert (back spasms) will all miss tomorrow’s contest vs OKC, leaving superstar Anthony Edwards and Mike Conley to face the Thunder with a bunch of young pups at their side.

But how long will that be the case? The Minnesota Timberwolves have not had its full compliment of talent since January 15 against the Denver Nuggets. When will Randle, DiVincenzo and Gobert get back into the lineup? It sounds like Randle will be the first to return, of the three.

Minnesota Timberwolves latest injury update is mixed bag of good and bad news

According to Jon Krawczynski (The Athletic), while Julius Randle may not be back this weekend, he has resumed playing 5v5 in practice with his teammates and his return is imminent. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about DiVincenzo, who just recently began non-contact activities.

Related: Timberwolves’ Pursuit of Kevin Durant Far From Over

The most eye-catching update from Jon’s piece, though, is a note about Gobert’s back injury, which did not heal up during the All-Star break, something the longtime Minnesota Timberwolves insider regards as “concerning”.

Randle has started playing five-on-five, meaning his return from an injury that has kept him out for nine games is imminent. DiVincenzo has been cleared for non-contact work, making his return a little bit further off. That Gobert’s back injury was not resolved over the All-Star break is concerning, especially with a home-and-home back-to-back against Oklahoma City coming on Sunday and Monday.

Jon Krawczynski – The Athletic

The MN Timberwolves are 10-7 in the 17 games played since they had all three of the above players in the lineup on January 15. Rudy Gobert has now missed the Wolves’ last two games, including their final matchup before the All-Star break vs the same team they play Sunday, the OKC Thunder.

Rudy Gobert is averaging 11 points, 10.4 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game, in 55 games this season. Those numbers are all down from his career averages of 12.6/11.7/2.1 per game. Nonetheless, he is still crucial to what the MN Timberwolves do on both sides of the floor, but especially on defense. The fact that Jon K is concerned makes me concerned too.

The NBA is coming off their All-Star Weekend, and the Minnesota Timberwolves are back in action on Friday night vs the Houston Rockets. Off the court, though, we are still waiting for majority ownership of the Wolves to switch hands from Glen Taylor to investor extraordinaire, Marc Lore.

This, after an arbitration panel ruled in favor of Lore and Alex Rodriguez a couple of weeks ago, in an ongoing legal battle that ended with the new ownership group being awarded controlling ownership of the Wolves and Lynx, pending a 3/4 owners vote that has yet to be scheduled.

Minnesota Timberwolves ownership vote coming soon

It may seem like a small detail, and Lore is expected to have the votes he needs, but Wolves ownership cannot officially change hands until the vote actually takes place. So… when will that happen? According to insider Darren “Doogie” Wolfson, we are looking at the end of March, at the earliest.

“Adam Silver, at the podium over the weekend, saying all signs point to that Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez will get from the board of governors. The earliest we’re looking at though for a vote, it sounds like, is late March.”

Darren Wolfson on the Timberwolves sale vote (Skor North)

Back in late March of last year, when Taylor first pulled the rug out from under Lore and A-Rod, there was some questions surrounding whether or not the Minnesota Timberwolves sale would clear the ownership vote hurdle, even if they won the legal battle vs Taylor. That is not as big of a question, after months of Lore and A-Rod jockeying for votes.

In all likelihood, Wolfson is referring to the annual end-of-season ownership meeting, which usually takes place during a weekend near the end of the regular season, which is April 13, this year. Last season, the owners met from April 8-10, less than a week before the season ended on April 14, 2024.

At 31-25, the Timberwolves have 26 games left in their regular season. Tim Connelly still must decide how he’s going to handle the NBA trade deadline. Minnesota closes out March with a home game before playing five-straight road games to open April. It could be fun to see the new ownership group ushered in before that road trip… but I wouldn’t count on it. Welcoming the team back with new owners, however, is very much possible.

Glen Taylor might still appeal to remain owner of the Timberwolves?

There was a time when it seemed as though Lore and Rodriguez could keep Glen Taylor on as a minority partner. Given how this whole situation has played out, it’s hard to believe they won’t attempt to buy him out completely. It remains to be seen if he’ll go quietly though.

Wolfson doesn’t see a clear path for Taylor to appeal, but the pettiness has been prevalent throughout the latter end of this process.

“Will Glen Taylor appeal? That’s the question, but to me, what exactly are you appealing? Are you really going to prove some sort of bias with the independent arbitrator Tom Fraser? Best of luck on that. I don’t think that’s a path to success…There are no signs Glen is going to appeal, but that’s the open-ended question. [Adam] Silver even alluded to that on Saturday.”

At some point it just becomes time to move on. Taylor hasn’t painted himself in the best light since reversing course on his sale. There’s really no reason to further drag out the process. There isn’t a path to him changing the decision, and the new Minnesota Timberwolves ownership group has little interest in continuing the charade.

For the first time in franchise history, the MN Timberwolves will be owned by someone other than Taylor. That’s a monumental change for the organization, and him not being involved in any capacity would be that much more notable.

The next plans to put in motion should be figuring out a date to retire Kevin Garnett’s jersey and get that #21 hanging from the rafters.
