The Minnesota Timberwolves are on break with the rest of the NBA this weekend, as the league holds its annual All-Star Game in San Francisco. This year, the Wolves had just one representative All-Star on hand, 23-year-old superstar Anthony Edwards.

Ant earned his All-Star bid with 27.5 points per game, good for 5th most in the NBA, to go with 5.8 rebounds and 4.5 assists. Out of all the top scorers in the league, Edwards is the only one who has played more than 53 games this season.

Anthony Edwards drops out of All-Star game last minute

But that didn’t help Anthony Edwards stay in the All-Star lineup on Sunday night. After walking into the arena and being announced as a starter on Team Kenny… Ant was scratched from the lineup late with what Jon Krawczynski (The Athletic) reported and Edwards later explained as a groin strain.

We know that Ant has been dealing with some lower body issues, recently, so this wasn’t a huge surprise to most Minnesota Timberwolves fans who pay close attention to their favorite team’s best player. The same cannot be said for the rest of the NBA fanbase, who again came away disappointed with yet another failed NBA All-Star Game.

Why did Edwards drop out exactly?

But Ant’s late scratch was made a bit more murky by a contradicting report by Marc J Spears, which originally said that he missed tonight’s game due to a cold. Shortly after tweeting out his original report, Spears edited his post on X to include the groin injury… two different times.

Who knows exactly why Anthony Edwards dropped out of Sunday night’s All-Star Game early. He told reporters that, if he had more time to warm up, he probably would have given it a go. Ant hopes that this injury will not cause him to miss any time in the second half of the season… if his injury is the real problem.
