Julius Randle Expected to Return for Timberwolves

The Minnesota Timberwolves are back in action on Sunday night vs the Phoenix Suns. Anthony Edwards will be back off of his one-game suspension, as the Wolves look to kill their current three-game losing streak. It’s the Wolves’ third game in four nights, but it sounds like they’ll have more than one fresh body available.

According to NBA insider Chris Haynes, Julius Randle is expected to join Edwards tonight, in what would be his first game since January 30. In 48 games played this season, the 30-year-old former Kentucky Wildcat is averaging 18.9 points, 7.2 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game.

President of basketball operations Tim Connelly traded Karl-Anthony Towns to the New York Knicks for Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo, just before the start of the regular season. Since, the Minnesota Timberwolves have not been the same team.
But one thing we’ve learned since Randle suffered his injury back on January 30, during a win vs the Utah Jazz, is that the Wolves are definitely better with their new big man available, than without. From a numbers standpoint, Julius Randle’s numbers are very similar, even though his minutes are a bit down.
Julius Randle | Games | MPG | FG% | PPG | RPG | APG |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
w/Wolves | 48 | 32.6 | .470 | 18.9 | 7.2 | 4.5 |
Career | 689 | 35.3 | .470 | 19.1 | 9.2 | 3.8 |
In the 14 games played since Julius left the rotation, the MN Timberwolves are a paltry 6-8. They’ve fallen all the way to 9th place in the Western Conference. Prior to Randle’s injury, the Timberwolves were 27-21 and 6th in the West.
