Time for Two More with Toups Volume VI
Hello friends, another busy week in the Minnesota sports landscape. Last week I took a very Vikings-heavy approach after the Goff-apocalypse on Thursday Night Football. This week I promise to branch out. But, actions speak louder than words so LET’S GO:
Joe Mauer:
Where do I start? After an unforgettable 2018 sendoff, Mauer has to decide if he wants to continue to play baseball or if he is ready to call it quits. Mauer’s numbers speak for themselves, and he has put himself amongst the Twins greats of all time. Forever a source of criticism from fans after his massive contract extension, Mauer has given baseball everything he has. We can only wonder what his numbers would look like if not for the concussions that plagued the back half of his career. I mean seriously, look at these numbers before 2011. They are striking…
And, how awesome was this moment? I certainly won’t ever forget it.

Will Bitten:
The Minnesota Wild continued to tinker with their roster right up until the start of the regular season, acquiring Bitten from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for Gustav Olofsson on Wednesday. Olofsson was buried on the Wild depth chart and was expendable in exchange for the talent that Bitten brings to the table.
Will he help the Wild now? Not very much.
Later? Now we’re talking.
I mean I could get used to seeing plays like this in a few years:

Dalvin Cook:
Should we be panicked? First it was just a cramp. Now, after missing the Rams game, Cook is Questionable for Sunday against the Eagles. Dalvin adds a tremendous dynamic to this Vikings offense, when he is on the field. But the team hasn’t been able to establish the running game at all yet this season. Thank goodness for Kirk Cousins.
I guess we just cross our fingers and hope Cook will be able to go vs. Philly… and that maybe the running game will show signs of life?
WAIT TRAE WAYNES IS OUT?????

Here is what else caught my eye this week:
Among names #BlueJays likely to consider for MGR, per sources: Eric Wedge, John McDonald, Stubby Clapp, David Bell, Sandy Alomar Jr. All but Clapp have ties to Shapiro-Atkins from CLE. Wedge in Jays’ org since ‘16. McDonald played for TOR ‘06-‘11; Clapp is native of Windsor, Ont.

Hold the damn phone…Stubby Clapp? I don’t know anything about him but I’ve found my pick for the Twins next manager. That may be one of the greatest baseball names I’ve ever heard. Right up there with Johnny Field. Clearly, without looking at anything about Stubby, he’s the guy.
The Wolves and Heat were making significant progress on a Jimmy Butler trade this week, league sources say, before deal changes proposed by Minnesota led to a breakdown in talks
— Marc Stein (@TheSteinLine) October 4, 2018
Well, the Jimmy Butler situation appears to be going well. What happens if Butler isn’t traded by the start of the season? I guess we’ll find out…

Well looks like the Paul Fenton era is off to a great start…yikes
That is all for this week. Hope for W’s, expect some L’s. Most of all continue to “Enjoy the Season”.
