Here we are for yet another weekly recap column. This time, however, we have a name. Every week we’ll have “Time for Two More with Toups” on Thursday night/Friday morning, to make sure you are all caught up with some of the stories that may have slipped through the cracks, before you head into the weekend.

There was plenty of action this past week: I mean, the NFL is finally back and the Gophers continued their strong start to 2018. It’s the best time of year!

So, let’s get started:

Antoine Winfield Jr:

Another week another tremendously clutch play for Winfield, who followed up his absurd punt return in week 1 with an unbelievable game saving interception vs. Fresno State, when they were knocking on the door for a game-tying score. Winfield is reminding fans of the plays his dad made during his time with the Vikings, and for a young Gopher team he fits right in. I mean this is ridiculous:

I have to add one more tweet regarding Winfield. Look at this moment with Coach Fleck. These kids would run through a brick wall for this guy. And, he would run through one for them. Hell, I would run through one for every single one of them and I don’t know any of them on a personal basis. But, this is Minnesota’s team now and it all feels more personal with Fleck. That’s enough for me.

Bryan Witzmann:

Earlier this week, after losing Aviante Collins to IR, the Vikings added Bryan Witzmann to boost their offensive line depth. Witzmann spent most of last year starting at LG for the Chiefs, which should be a little bit of a wake up call for current starter Tom Compton. After a rough start Sunday, Compton played fairly well against the 49ers, but the fact that the Vikings now have capable starters that can step in if anyone struggles is very encouraging and hopefully it will push guys like Tom.

Kevin Garnett:

What is with financial advisers defrauding clients out of their money? The latest victim is our own Big Ticket, who alleges that his former accountant assisted a financial adviser in stealing $77 million of his money. Thankfully Garnett had a pretty successful NBA career and should have a HOF enshrinement coming soon to put all of this in the past.

Here are a few other things that caught my eye this week:

If you still don’t appreciate the majesty that is Willians Astudillo you are sorely missing out. I want Astudillo on this team next year, he has fully won me over.

ELFLEIN UPDATE: Pat was a limited participant in practice. He is getting close to returning to the lineup!

You are all going to miss Joe when he’s gone, no matter what you say… I know I will.

That’s all I have for this week. Hope the Vikings squash those Packers, so we don’t have to hear from “writers” like Peter, until they come to US Bank Stadium (where they will lose again).
