After rushing for just shy of 15,000 yards and 120 touchdowns during his 15-year NFL career, AP’s life has been on the downhill slope both on and off the field.

Let’s start by noting that, while Peterson hasn’t played an NFL game since the 2021 season, he has yet to retire, meaning he’s still as eligible as any other free agent remaining on the market, entering 2025 training camp. That fact tells you everything you need to know about where AP’s mentals and financials are currently at.

Remember Adrian Peterson’s poker night brawl?

And that brings us to a couple of months ago, May 27, when a 40-year-old Adrian Peterson was playing cards at a Houston poker bar, called JokerStars. There, a disagreement between AP and another hyper athletic man at his table quickly escalated into a full-blown fist fight that the former Viking seemed to get the worst of.

After TMZ Sports finally got word of Peterson’s bar room brawl out to the public, which was nearly a month after the fight actually took place, he blamed fans and the media for trying to make nothing into something, voicing frustration with how his off-field activities become magnified due to his celebrity status.

Of course, anyone with any self-awareness would understand that any big name current or former pro sports star deals with the same kind of scrutiny that AP does, oftentimes even more. The one-time Minnesota Vikings superstar’s biggest problem has been his inability to stay out of trouble and out of headlines.

Whether it be 2014 child abuse charges he pled no contest to, or things he’s done since his playing career was forced into an end. Prior to joining the poker night fight club, AP was arrested under suspicion of DUI, after he attended the 2025 Minnesota Vikings draft party. Before that, he was cited for an altercation with a sports memorabilia collectors.

Former Minnesota Vikings star gets rematch fight

The list of headlines goes on. But no matter, because it appears Adrian Peterson is no longer mad at fans intrigued by off-field escapades, nor the media members who profit from them. Instead, AP is trying to make some money off of his mistakes this time around.

On Friday, TMZ Sports broke the news that Peterson has signed up for a rematch against his card-playing enemy from JokerStars that May night in Houston. This time, however, the fight will be televised and both men will be wearing boxing gloves. The name on the fight card next to Peterson is Joe “Baby Joe” Castaneda.

Adrian Peterson will be throwing hands against his poker rival again soon … TMZ Sports has learned he’s officially signed a contract to fight his adversary in a boxing ring!

The NFL legend put his John Hancock on a Celebrity Boxing contract Wednesday evening … and after Joe “Baby Joe” Castaneda inked his deal with the fight org. earlier this week — a sanctioned bout between the two is now incoming.

Of course, this isn’t the first time I’ve underestimated AP’s financial problems, and I doubt it will be the last. At the end of the day, everybody needs money to live their life. That includes Adrian Peterson, who was over $12 million dollars in debt, a number revealed in court documents back in September, 2024.

Sure, AP made over $100 million during his NFL career, but the Minnesota Vikings all-time leading rusher blew most of those earnings before his football career was even over.

Thus, Peterson has been searching for additional revenue streams since NFL teams stopped trying to sign him three years ago, including a 2023 run on Dancing with the Stars.

This isn’t Adrian Peterson’s first boxing rodeo

Not only is this Peterson’s second fight against Joe “Baby Joe” Castaneda, but it’s also AP’s second time stepping into a boxing ring as a paid fighter. Back in 2022, he signed up to fight another former NFL running back, Le’Veon Bell.

Unfortunately, Peterson’s boxing debut did not go well. Bell mostly dominated the first four rounds of the fight, before he knocked AP out in the 5th and final round.

Without a doubt, I thought being KO’d by Le’Veon Bell meant the last time we would see Adrian Peterson step into a boxing ring with gloves and shorts on. But as mentioned earlier, I continue to underestimate just how desperate AP’s money situation really is.

Video Surfaces of Insane Adrian Peterson Poker Night Fist Fight https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-vikings/adrian-peterson-fist-fight-poker-game/ Thu, 19 Jun 2025 17:23:06 +0000 https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/?p=64104 Adrian Peterson is the greatest running back in Minnesota Vikings history. During his 10-year career in purple, AP carried the ball 2,418 times for an absurd 11,747 rushing yards, 97 touchdowns and a whopping 4.9 YPC average.

Unfortunately, Peterson was never the same running back once he left Minnesota, totalling less than 3,000 yards between six different teams, over the course of five seasons from 2017-2021. To this day, the Vikings legend and future NFL Hall of Famer has yet to retire, even though he’s now 40 years old and hasn’t played for three seasons.

Then, there’s the Adrian Peterson we have come to know off the field. And that AP, while always approachable and great with Vikings fans, is nowhere near as spectacular as the guy who laced it up and ran over professional football players for a decade.

Off the field, AP has had multiple run-ins with police, including recently. His most infamous off-field legal issue stemmed from a child abuse scandal that turned his life and the 2014 Minnesota Vikings season upside down. The former Oklahoma Sooner has also dealt with money issues that have lead to disputes over some of his merchandise and who owns it.

Adrian Peterson gets into fist fight over poker dispute

But what happened this week, at what was supposed to be a fun night of bar poker, definitely lands near the top of ‘WTF moments’ (both on and off the field), since we were introduced to Adrian Peterson back when he was drafted by the Vikings in 2007.

According to TMZ Sports, the poker room brawl broke out weeks ago, on May 27, at a poker club in Houston, called “JokerStars”. Peterson told TMZ that alcohol was involved in the altercation and that “one thing led to another”, after he and his buddies had a disagreement at the table.

AP made sure to let TMZ know that his bloody wounds were attained when he fell and hit a chair, not because of a punch he took. Video evidence does not back up his claim, however.

We’re told after the guys were pulled apart, bloody wounds were visible on both their faces. Peterson, though, claimed he sustained his injury after he fell into a chair — not from a punch.

Have you ever been around Adrian Peterson? He’s a monster who stands at 6’1″, 220 lbs of pure muscle. Yet, when a dispute broke out between AP and this Random Poker Player the other night, not only did Random Poker Player hold his own… he might have won this fight, had it gone to judges.

Eventually, right before the video cuts off, that Peterson’s sheer size and strength eventually overcomes Random Poker Player, but not after Adrian catches multiple fists to the face/head area. We do not know exactly what sparked the fight, as of now. If more video or information surfaces on this brawl, it will be added to this article.

Insane Timberwolves + Pistons Melee Spills into Crowd https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-timberwolves/fight-detroit-pistons-divincenzo-stewart-holland/ Mon, 31 Mar 2025 00:49:06 +0000 https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/?p=61993 The NBA Playoffs are in the air. If you don’t believe it, all you had to do was tune into tonight’s matchup between the Minnesota Timberwolves and Detroit Pistons at Target Center. After the away team jumped out to an early lead, driven by former Wolf, Malik Beasley, who hit six of his first nine three pointers and let everyone in the building know about it.

But this MN Timberwolves team, when at its best this season, doesn’t get pushed around by anyone. Much of that can be attributed to the additions of Julius Randle and, even more so, Donte DiVincenzo. So when Beasley got hot and started talking about it to former teammates and Target Center fans, the DiVincenzo made it his mission to stem the Malik Beasley momentum.

Minnesota Timberwolves vs Detroit Pistons gets heated…

He hit some shots in the 1st quarter, then showed his physicality in the 2nd quarter, battling for rebounds and trying to fight back mentally against the fire Detroit brought to Minneapolis Sunday night. As he tends to do, DiVincenzo also started getting into the heads of Pistons players, starting with five-year veteran Isaiah Stewart.

That foul was called on DiVincenzo, but gives a great snapshot into what was brewing between Stewart, the Pistons vs Donte and the Minnesota Timberwolves. That becomes important for what happened a little while later.

That’s when Naz Reid was fouled by Pistons rookie Ron Holland II, on his way to the basket. One aggressive finger wag later, and Holland became upset. Once the 2024 No. 5 overall draft pick got hostile, guess who stepped in between him and and Naz Reid?

Malice at Target Center

Of course, it was DiVincenzo, who gave up about a foot in height and 1.5 feet in reach to the younger, more athletic Holland. It didn’t matter though. When push literally came to shove, it was Holland going to the ground with the forearm of DiVincenzo at his neck.

From there, Pistons and Timberwolves coaches and teammates all jumped into the action, which spilled into the first five rows of the cameramen and fans behind the hoop. Eventually, Holland emerged from the pile with what appeared to be a bloody lip. Divincenzo had a 3-inch vertical cut/scratch on the right side of his adams apple.

When all was said and done, five players — Reid, Divincenzo, Stewart Holland and Marcus Sasser were all tossed. So were MN Timberwolves assistant Pablo Prigioni and Detroit head coach, JB Bickerstaff. In most situations, NBA fights are nonsense and they usually hurt your team.

Related: Timberwolves Planning to Keep Julius Randle and Naz Reid…?

But if there were ever a case where the Minnesota Timberwolves needed a hockey-style melee to turn the tide of a basketball game, it was tonight. Donte Divincenzo sensed it, and he wasn’t afraid to go there. A couple fans and a cameraman got a few signed jerseys out of the deal, and there may be some suspensions on the way too.

But Donte brought the energy that his team desperately needed tonight. And they responded both before and after his ejection. Will it be enough to will the MN Timberwolves to victory vs a very hungry Pistons team? We’ll find out in the second half.

Here are some of the best tweets reacting to tonight’s events.

Minnesota Wild Beat Up Stars in Preseason Finale; 3rd Period Chaos Ensues https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-wild/minnesota-wild-beat-up-dallas-stars-preseason-finale-3rd-period-chaos-ensues/ Sun, 08 Oct 2023 01:30:14 +0000 https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/?p=44278 The Minnesota Wild entered the 2023-24 preseason finale with 2022-23 postseason revenge on their minds, and delivered with a 4-0 beatdown on the Dallas Stars Saturday night.

Filip Gustavsson notched a shutout in his final warmup before the regular season begins on Thursday. Kirill Kaprizov potted a goal early in the 3rd and Mats Zuccarello notched two impressive assists. Oh, and Ryan Hartman got a postgame contract extension.

Related: Dean Evason Hot Seat Check: 6 Questions for Minnesota Wild Entering 2023-24

Minnesota Wild strong preseason overshadowed by 3rd period chaos

But things started to unravel on the ice, after Marco Rossi’s goal a bit later in the period, when Pat Maroon and Jamie Benn went toe-to-toe on the ensuing face-off.

Clearly, the Wild used this preseason game, not only to get their minds right for the regular season, but to exact revenge on a divisional rival who they lost an intense playoff series to last season.

And the crowd at the Xcel Energy Center was no different. When Benn was in the penalty box, after his fight with Maroon, a fan threw popcorn on his head and he lost his mind.

Brandon Duhaime vs Mason Marchment

If there was any question about their intent entering the final period, Brandon Duhaime put an end to that when he went begging for a fight with Mason Marchment, that he eventually got. When the dust settled on the scrum, Marchment got a 10-minute game misconduct and Duhaime got a 2-5-10 for instigating it.

Minnesota finishes their preseason 5-1-0 and, as noted earlier, will drop the puck on their regular season, Thursday, when they play the Florida Panthers in St. Paul.

Marcus Foligno Will Do Whatever, Disrespect Whoever, it Takes to Win https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-wild/marcus-foligno-fight-englund/ Tue, 11 Apr 2023 16:48:51 +0000 https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/?p=42311 The Minnesota Wild beat the Chicago Blackhawks 4-2 on Monday night, in a game they had to win in order to keep their Central Division championship dreams alive. The boxscore won’t surprise anyone. The Wild beat a tanking Hawks team. Kaprizov was given an off-night so, naturally, Boldy scored a goal and assisted on another. Johansson potted two. Business as usual, right?

Miracle goal reversal

Well, not quite. For 2.5 periods last night, the Blackhawks were better than the Wild. Chicago carried a 2-1 lead into the 14-minute mark of the third period and, just before that, the game looked all but over when Jonathon Toews scored a 6-on-5 goal while the Hawks played keep-away on a delayed penalty call against the Wild. That made the score 3-1 with just over half a period left to play.

But then, a miracle happened. After further review, it was ruled that John Merrill had gained possession of the puck just before the goal was scored. So instead of a 2-goal lead, the puck was ruled dead at the moment Merrill “got control of the puck” in the crease and Chicago was awarded a power play.

Foligno starts fight at worst perfect time

The Wild killed the penalty and the game carried on at 2-1. But even while on a power play of their own, Marcus Foligno didn’t see the game turning in the Wild’s favor. Thus, drastic measures needed to be taken. With 7:45 remaining in the game, he challenged Andreas Englund to a fight.

It was a worthy matchup of heavyweights and Foligno took his own fair share of punishment. The blood flowing freely down from his nostrils and into his mouth gave that much away. But Marcus, as he oftentimes does, came away victorious.

And for his efforts, the 12-year veteran proceeded to rip Englund’s helmet off. He shook it up in the air with his right hand and screamed at his own bench, “I’ve got his head!”, with a referee hanging off of his left arm.

It was as if, in that moment, Marcus Foligno had gone completely insane. Ripping a helmet off another player is an automatic penalty and his team was on a power play. It could have been their best chance at tying the game before time expired.

But Englund had accused Foligno of a dirty hit earlier in the period and the Wild bruiser and team leader wasn’t going to skip an opportunity to light a fire under his team’s ass. Power play or penalty kill, the Wild clearly needed something to get them going and, if that meant dropping his gloves and putting on his crazy-person face, then that was a price he was more than willing to pay.

Hockey is a funny game…

And you know what… hockey is a funny game. Less than two minutes later, with the Blackhawks on a power play created by Foligno’s psychotic episode, the other Marcus (Johnansson) scored a short-handed goal on a 2-1 Wild breakaway. Tie game.

And Johansson wasn’t done. Less than three minutes later, the trade deadline acquisition took a beautifully placed pass from Matt Boldy and paid off Bill Guerin’s GM chops again, giving the Wild a 3-2 lead that was quickly made 4-2 by a Gustav Nyquist empty-netter.

And all of this stemmed from what first appeared to be an immature act by a veteran player, in one of the biggest moments of a semi-important game. Even if you accept professional hockey players fist fighting each other as part of the game, the playoff implications this could have had, should Foligno have gotten hurt are, made it look downright stupid. Until, the Wild scored a shorty to tie the game, then won it right after.

Is Marcus Foligno losing his marbles?

So, is Marcus Foligno going crazy or is his leadership just on a level we can’t possibly comprehend? It’s hard to say, but whatever it is, he’s certainly creating enemies along the way. There’s no way Andreas Englund is buying a Corona for Foligno, should they come across each other in Cancun over the offseason.

The same can be said for Englund’s teammate and fellow defenseman, Connor Murphy, who was absolutely disgraced by Foligno when these two teams played a couple of weeks ago. Most of the time, one testosterone-filled heterosexual male doesn’t do something like this to another testosterone-filled heterosexual male, without serious consequences…

But guess what, hockey is a funny game. I don’t know what has gotten into Marcus Foligno but, in both instances above, the Wild came out victorious. Does that mean anything, given how terrible the Chicago Blackhawks are this season? I’ll let you be the judge of that.

Another big game tonight

Until then, maybe we’ll get some more of it tonight when the Wild play against the Winnipeg Jets in game 81 of 82 this season. The Jets are fighting for their playoff lives. Minnesota’s come-from-behind victory last night keeps them two points behind both Colorado and Dallas in the Central Division. The Avs have one game in-hand on both the Wild and Stars.

Marc-Andre Fleury Tries Tossing Ref Aside to Fight Jordan Binnington https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-wild/marc-andre-fleury-ref-fight-binnington/ Thu, 16 Mar 2023 03:50:10 +0000 https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/?p=42093 The Minnesota Wild are in the middle of a shootout vs the St. Louis Blues and the 2nd period got a bit out of control, but in the best way. There were 5 goals scored and, even more of note, Marc-Andre Fleury and Jordan Binnington were one linesman away from throwing hands.

Fleury recently talked about his urge to get into the first goalie fight of his career. He showed a willingness to do it the other night and nearly tossed a ref to the side to make it happen on Wednesday.

And credit to Jordan Binnington, who immediately tossed his gloves and seemed ready to rumble once he saw Fleury on his doorstep. The loser of this interaction? The zebra who stopped this glorious hockey eclipse from taking place. Microphones caught everything MAF said during the exchange, making for a great video that was posted by the Wild social media account on Thursday.

WATCH: Vikings Fans Take on Panthers Fans in Huge Brawl https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-vikings/watch-vikings-fans-take-on-panthers-fans-in-huge-brawl/ Mon, 18 Oct 2021 19:13:07 +0000 https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/?p=36678 The Minnesota Vikings and Carolina Panthers weren’t only fighting it out on the football field this past Sunday. Fans of both teams, after a few drinks, were ready to rumble too. The concourse was their octagon and there were no rules. The fight lasted about three minutes and it was the ultimate test of each competitor’s world class athleticism.

The entire scene was action packed. Punches and kicks were thrown, jerseys and cargo shorts were everywhere. It was intense. Then at about 1:20, tensions boil over and erupt into utter chaos. There’s a Vikings fan in a purple t-shirt who seems to drive most of the violence and take most of the beating… but he may have had good reason.

Watch for yourself and then read below for some details on the melee, that have come out since.

What happened?

The main Vikings fan in the video (purple t-shirt guy), who gets knocked out while on his knees at the 1:40 mark, had a reason to be so upset, according to Outkick.com. Before the camera started rolling, his mom was apparently “sucker punched”. That according to an off-duty police officer who saw it happen and tackled the alleged assailant (watch in the background at the 0:09 mark).

“He kept getting up attacking. For some reason the video portrayed as if he stayed on the ground. He actually was taken down multiple times. Idk why be he was mad at an elderly woman.”

Off-Duty Officer Goins (via Outkick)

Much like the Minnesota Vikings on the field, purple t-shirt guy refused to give up! That brutal shot purple he took to the face was similar to the Sam Darnold touchdown that sent the actual game to overtime. But just when the fight felt over for the Vikings, purple t-shirt guy wakes from the dead and chases down the “sucker punch” artist who started all of this.

Yes, the same “sucker punch” artist who was tackled at the 0:09 mark by the off-duty police officer finally resurfaces at 02:00 of the video and purple t-shirt guy takes off after him. You’ll see him catch and land a haymaker of his own six seconds later that finally puts some justice into this video. Finally, purple t-shirt guy was able to honorably defend his mom, his wife (who got knocked to the ground in this video too) and the honor of all Vikings fans.

Encore

The last of the melee happened up where “sucker punch” artist was laid out to end the last video. These Carolina fans really like to take out their anger on middle-aged women. This time, it’s a young and very fit female Carolina fan who commits the crime on the innocent Vikings fan. Has Carolina become the new Philadelphia?

Kirill Kaprizov Takes Check From Behind and Retaliates With Body Slam; Foligno Loses His Mind https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-wild/kirill-kaprizov-takes-check-from-behind-and-retaliates-with-body-slam-foligno-loses-his-mind/ Thu, 06 May 2021 01:10:44 +0000 https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/?p=34915

The Minnesota Wild are playing against the Vegas Golden Knights tonight and with just 5 games remaining for each team, a win could mean the division. And that’s the way this game has been played so far. But there was a moment in the first period when budding superstar Kirill Kaprizov was hit with a dirty check from behind and neither he nor his good friend, Marcus Foligno were having any of that.

If you read this headline and came here hoping to see Kirill Kaprizov body slam someone with a single-leg take down, then you came to the right place. Here are a few different videos of an absolutely intense situation that left noses bloodied and feelings hurt. I love hockey.

Sharks’ Knyzhov Drops Gloves with Marcus Foligno; Immediately Regrets It https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-wild/sharks-knyzhov-drops-gloves-with-marcus-foligno-immediately-regrets-it/ https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-wild/sharks-knyzhov-drops-gloves-with-marcus-foligno-immediately-regrets-it/#respond Tue, 23 Feb 2021 04:38:54 +0000 https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/?p=33425

The Minnesota Wild and San Jose Sharks are currently in the 1st intermission of tonight’s late-late game out in California. The Wild hold a 2-1 lead and the first 20 minutes were fun to watch. But the talker came after a fight broke out between Marcus Foligno and Nikolai Knyzhov just before break.

The Sharks’ Nikolai Knyzhov is just 22-years-old so someone with a bit more wisdom should have told him that dropping the gloves with Marcus Foligno would be a terrible idea. Instead, he had to find out the hard way… and boy did he ever.

You know it’s bad when Marcus Foligno has to call for the ref to intervene.

Note to self: Never write a negative blog about Marcus Foligno.

Hermantown and Cathedral Clear Benches in State Tournament Brawl https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-wild/hermantown-and-cathedral-clear-benches-in-state-tournament-brawl/ https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-wild/hermantown-and-cathedral-clear-benches-in-state-tournament-brawl/#respond Fri, 06 Mar 2020 18:20:59 +0000 https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/?p=22454

You knew the Hermantown vs Cathedral game was going to have fireworks right when the puck dropped late this morning! Unlike a lot of the games so far this year, the game was moving at a hot and heavy pace from the first whistle.

Kids were getting lit up all over the ice too… How can you not love this tournament??? Hermantown had the edge though and Cathedral isn’t used to that (20-3-1 on season). As the period went along and the Hermantown lead grew to 2-0, the game got especially chippy.

Nobody is surprised when these private school kids have issues accepting failure..

The frustration boiled over at the end of the period when cheap shots here and some pushes there… lead to a bench clearing brawl. How can you stop yourself from falling in love with hockey?

If you didn’t already have this game on, you’d better turn your TV to KSTP 45 because we are only getting started in the second period, where 8 kids total started the period in the box.

I’d be shocked if Cathedral rolls over and dies…
