The Minnesota Golden Gopher football team added a huge recruit Sunday afternoon. 4-star OT, Cameron James announced via Twitter that he will be bringing his talents to the Twin Cities. Don’t worry about the 3-stars you see above. Always trust 247Sports.com rating above the composite, which also includes ESPN and Rivals.
James tweeted on Saturday that he would be announcing his commitment at 3pm on Sunday, choosing from Minnesota, Missouri, Michigan State, Indiana, and Kentucky.
Cameron James is from Chicago, Illinois and played for Simeon Career Academy, located in the West Chatham area of south Chicago. This is a HUGE get for the Gophers. bringing their number of 4-star recruits for 2021 up to six. P.J. Fleck seems to be taking over Illinois, by grabbing four, 4-star athletes from the state.
James comes in at 6’8, 280 lbs, joining an O-Line group known as the ‘Minnesota Movers’. His massive size continues Minnesota’s trend of massive offensive lineman. The best part about James might be his athletic ability. He showcases superior athleticism for the OT position, especially at his size. Opposing defensive ends do not stand a chance against this kid as James runs people over seemingly every snap.
Offensive line was, and still is, Minnesota’s biggest remaining hole to fill with the 2021 recruiting class. I have a strong feeling that there is more to come from this position in the near future. Minnesota currently sits at #8 in the 2021 class rankings, per 24/7 Sports.
They still has a ways to go to move up the list, nonetheless the commitment of James helps tremendously.
