Wild Quietly Extend Bill Guerin’s Contract
The Minnesota Wild are still waiting to see who their first round playoff opponent will be. There is no guessing, however, on who their general manager will be for the foreseeable future. Not after they quietly extended the contract of Bill Guerin, in recent weeks.
Bill Guerin Committed to Wild
According to Michael Russo (The Athletic), Guerin and owner, Craig Leipold, agreed to a multi-year contract deal that will keep Billy in Minnesota “for many years”.
Guerin is always confident and comfortable in his own skin, but right now he also has further reason to be.
The GM, currently in his fourth year in Minnesota, recently signed a multi-year contract extension. While Guerin wouldn’t comment on it, owner Craig Leipold confirmed the move, telling The Athletic, “He is signed on with our team for many years. He’s a huge part of our future, and he and I are both committed to the Wild.”

Keeping Guerin away from Penguins?
Bill Guerin has already proven to be one of the better general managers in the NHL. His up-front, no bullshit attitude plays well within the Wild locker room, with media members and throughout the fanbase. He’s also found a way to keep the roster competitive, even while cap-strapped by Zack Parise and Ryan Suter’s contract buyouts from a couple of years ago.
The extension puts Craig Leipold’s mind at ease, when it comes to Guerin’s future, too. The Pittsburgh Penguins, where Guerin both played and climbed the executive ladder, just fired their entire front office. With a new contract in-hand, the Penguins aren’t expected to knock on Billy’s door for any of their new openings.
