The Wild will look to rebound from last night’s disappointing loss to the Jets tonight vs the Calgary Flames.
Calgary poses a challenge defensively for the Wild given their poor play in that area, to start the season. The Wild need to be more consistent with their effort and that should solve some of the recent defensive lapses.
The Flames added to their depth, and even more to their average age, with the recent Jagr signing. Thachuk will give the Wild fits with his physical play and scoring prowess. Gaudreau, Monahan, and Backlund will be players to watch. Keep those guys quiet and you likely win. Calgary is talented but penalties have hurt them and stunted their growth offensively. They rank 7th highest in PIM league-wide, contributing to just 18 goals in 7 games.
I do think a more consistent schedule will help the Wild, defensively and hopefully that proves correct tonight. It can be difficult to be at full speed after a five day lay off.
Offensively, can Stewart stay hot? It seems like anyone who joins Mikko Koivu and Jason Zucker becomes one of the Wild’s best players. Don’t turn the channel when that line is on the ice.
The Wild hope to get to full speed but will not be at full force again with Parise, Coyle, Nino, and Granlund out. With Calgary’s love for the penalty box, the Wild’s power play units should see ample time. Here’s to no more injuries and a Wild win!
