Wild and Granlund Agree to Extension Before Friday Deadline
After signing Nino Niederreiter to a 5-year extension a few days ago, the Wild have locked up Mikael Granlund for 3-years (broken by Michael Russo – Star Tribune). Granlund will make $17.25 Million over the 3 years and will take up $5.75M of the remaining $10.5M in cap-space the Wild have. They now sit with about $4.7M to finish out the roster, which includes signing newly-acquired Foligno, according to fletcher:
“We’ll get a deal done with Foligno and then see what we have left, and if it makes sense to bring somebody else in, we will,” – Fletcher (Russo Article)
Granlund is 25 years old and finished last year as the Wild’s point leader with 69 (43 assists/26 goals). According to Russo, Granlund and his agent wanted a 3 year deal so Granlund can have the possibility of cashing in when he is 28.
