Are We Worried About Quinn Hughes’ Status for Wild vs Stars?

The Minnesota Wild are going to play against the Dallas Stars on Saturday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. CDT whether Quinn Hughes is ready to go or not.
But suddenly, Hughes’ status for game one of the Wild’s first round playoff series against Central Division rival Dallas is up in the air, after Minnesota’s new superstar defenseman missed practice Thursday with an undisclosed illness.

Hughes is sick. Will be on flight to Dallas

Since joining the Wild, Quinn Hughes has played 48 total games… which is all it took him to put up 53 points (5 goals, 48 assists) which surpassed previous franchise record for points in a season by a Minnesota defenseman (51).
Widely considered the second-best defenseman in hockey, the 26-year-old Hughes wasn’t brought in to help them clinch a wildcard spot in the playoffs, then lose (again) in the first round. The Wild traded most of their top prospects for Hughes so they could skate toe-to-toe with the Stars and Avalanche in the postseason.
Is Quinn Hughes going to play for MN Wild vs Stars?
It’s earlier than president of hockey operations Bill Guerin and most in the hockey world would prefer. But over the next two weeks, Quinn will have an immediate opportunity to pay-off Minnesota’s blockbuster bet.
That is… if he can take the ice. Fortunately, there is a bit of good news on Quinn Hughes’ illness front. Not only is he traveling with the team to Dallas today, but John Hynes told reporters today that the Wild are optimistic he will feel good enough to go late on Saturday afternoon.

In other words, we can all keep our hopes up that we will see Minnesota’s shiny new toy on the ice Saturday. I can’t imagine how sick Hughes would have to be to miss just the third playoff opener of his eight-year NHL career, and his first since 2023-24…
Of course, until he gets the green light we can’t be 100% sure of his status. Thus, we will keep you updated.
