The Minnesota Wild shake-up is officially underway. Nino Niederreiter draws the first short straw.

You may not like the trade or you may think the Wild got the short end of this deal but I don’t even care anymore. We could have traded some of these guys for a bag of pucks 2-3 years ago and we’d be better off right now.
I’d take a couple of non-playoff seasons, for better draft picks, that may have led to some of these young superstars that are coming up through the league now.
The Wild’s reliance on Granlund, Niederreiter and Coyle has proven to provide nothing but mediocre and consistently inconsistent hockey. At first glance, this deal might look tilted in Carolina’s favor but the numbers show that these are two underperforming players who needed changes in scenery.

Also, if the Wild want to keep Coyle and Rask at Center then we should expect another trade somewhere before the deadline because someone will have to move to wing with the way things stand right now…
