Minnesota Wild Unveil Winter Classic Uniforms That Pay Homage to Twin Cities

The Minnesota Wild will finally get their shot at a Winter Classic this season, when they host the St. Louis Blues on New Year’s Day 2022 at Target Field. On Saturday morning, they unveiled the full uniform that’ll be worn by the Wild that day and the sweaters are fire.

The “MPLS” on top of the state, combined with the “ST.PAUL” underneath, is meant to pay homage to the 1930 St. Paul Saint uniforms (according to Mike Russo). But to anyone unfamiliar with 1930’s hockey from the area, this is a perfect retro-style **non-North Stars-related** sweater unique to the team that’s been playing at Xcel Energy Center since 2000.

The Wild have struggled to find their own identity in the state of Minnesota and many from their own fanbase still call for the North Stars to return in their place. It’s good to see a creation like this, that doesn’t push the fanbase to memories that belong (unfortunately) to another franchise in Texas.

Now, they need to sign Kirill Kaprizov and make a few deep playoff runs over the next five years. That will help unite them with their fanbase more than any throwback sweater will.
