There have been rumors that it would happen, going back months, when Marc-Andre Fleury opted not to be traded away from the Minnesota Wild at the in-season trade deadline. But on Wednesday, it became official.

Minnesota Wild, Marc-Andre Fleury agree to contract extension

Flower is returning for another year of service, as an NHL goaltender and his brand new one-year contract extension ($2.5 million) makes it official that he will play his 40-year-old season in a Wild sweater.

Minnesota originally acquired Fleury on March 21, 2022, for a second-round pick. He’s 50-32-9, with a 2.89 GAA, .903 SV% and four shutouts in 96 games (91 starts) in the three seasons since.

Now, what will the Wild do with Filip Gustavsson, who signed a multi-year contract extension last offseason. Will they let Jesper Wallstedt season in the AHL for another year, or is time to move on from the Gus Bus? That’s the next goalie question that Guerin will eventually have to answer during the offseason.
