Wild Clinch Playoff Spot and Gain on Colorado with Another Victory
The Minnesota Wild are on fire and they didn’t slow down tonight vs the San Jose Sharks. The 6-3 victory marks seven-straight for the good guys and it clinched their eighth playoff appearance in nine seasons. This time, however, feels different.

#mnwild become 3rd NHL team — all in the top-heavy West Division — to clinch a playoff spot with 7th straight win (4-0 road trip)

Earliest MN has secured a playoff spot (16% of season left).
Fiala, Spurgeon, Bonino 1+1; Fiala GWG, Kaprizov, Foligno goals; 8th trip in 9 years
But it’s not just about clinching a playoff spot. Minnesota currently sits in 3rd place of the NHL’s West (pandemic) division but the Colorado Avalanche lost on Saturday, allowing the Wild to pull within ONE point of 2nd place.
No matter, #2 will play #3 in the first round of the playoffs but home-ice advantage would be nice. That #1 seed isn’t out of reach yet, though. With 11 games left to play, the Wild sit 5 points back of Vegas for Western Division dominance.
